Make a self catering villa in Ringgenberg, Switzerland your home away from home

Nestled on the shores of the lovely Brienzersee and close to the better known Interlaken, this is a popular holiday resort with hikers and nature lovers. The beauty of the area is well known, as steep mountains are reflected in the glassy lake reflections. In the summer Ringgenberg is an ideal base for a self catering villa holiday. Boating, walking, biking and driving around the breathtaking scenery is a delight. During the winter months, guests enjoy the many winter sports in this idyllic area.

Things to do in Ringgenberg, Switzerland

Ringgenberg’s most notable attraction is its scenery, but the tiny village does have an old stone church and some medieval castle ruins which are worth visiting. There is also a tiny lake called Burgseeli. There are a few places were it is possible to go swimming in the local lake, although the water can be quite chilly. Better yet, take a pleasure steamer to Interlaken and enjoy the ever-changing scenery along the way.

The mountains high above Ringgenberg are quite high and steep and are only recommended for experienced hikers, but there are plenty of other gentler climbs and rambles around this lovely area.

The nearby Jungfrau region has 200 km (125 miles) of ski slopes some of which stretch for 12km (7 miles). As well as the winter sports in this area, you can experience Canyoning; rappelling, sliding and jumping down the waterfalls of these canyons. White water rafting, kayaking, hot air ballooning and mountain biking are all exciting activities to try out to.

Places to visit near Ringgenberg, Switzerland

The nearby town of Interlaken Ost can be reached by train from your villa in Ringgenberg in just 6 minutes. Running along the edge of the Brienzersee, once again the scenery is quite breathtaking. Enjoy exploring this quiet town and admire the views of the magnificent Jungfrau.

Follow in the footsteps of James Bond. His film ‘On her Majesty’s Secret Service’ was filmed right here on the Schilthorn. The cable car ride to the top takes 32 minutes, then enjoy the views from the revolving restaurant before descending on skis or on the cable car.

See Switzerland as it used to be in this lovely museum at Ballenberg. With more than 100 old homes and buildings relocated here from all over Switzerland, the old style gardens are a picture of colour. 250 old breeds of farm animals and demonstrations of local crafts make this a delightful day out.

Weather in Ringgenberg, Switzerland

Temperatures during the summer months are a pleasant 18-24C (65-75F). During the winter the area is known for its skiing, so expect temperatures below freezing and some snow.

Flights to Ringgenberg, Switzerland

The nearest airport to Ringgenberg is Zurich International airport. It is 175km from your self catering villa and takes about 2hours 30 minutes to drive there. Cheap flights from all over Europe arrive daily. Geneva airport has similar connections and is 186km away. Both airports can be accessed by train from Ringgenberg.

Excellant Apartment, beautiful village, very good public transport.

5 of 5
The apartment was as described, clean and functional. As I was only staying a week I did not use the dish-washer, washer machine or dryer. Just as well as I could not find the instructions for either appliance left in apartment. The guest instructions left in the apartment were slightly different to those supplied before arrival. One aspect in them I found strange was a comment that calls to the local manager out of hours 9pm-9am may incur a call out charge. This is not the right attitude if you are encouraging tourism. Such call outs may be frivolous or even vexatious but as a business you have to take the rough with the smooth. A minor point for future editions of guest information to be issued for arrival is that Switzerland does not use the standard European mains socket (Schuko) and although one adapter to UK or Schuko was supplied in the apartment, guests may prefer to bring their own what with cameras, phones, electric toothbrushes, shavers etc etc needing to be charged. Another matter I found irksome was to do with rubbish disposal. Only one 35L tax paid rubbish sack was supplied and as it was obvious that even just for me for one week this was not going to be anywhere near enough. I have better things to do on holiday than having to seek out the special taxed rubbish sacks or going to recycling facilities in Laterbrunnen. In the end I filled up one of my own rubbish sacks I brought with me, taped it up and threw it in the back of the car and brought it home to deal with. As to the holiday itself, I bought a Swiss Pass --it looks expensive at 376CHF for 8 days -- but when you begin to use it you realise that trips are so expensive you are unlikely to lose money on it. Of course we all know Switzerland is an expensive country and tourism must supplement an economy known for making watches and penknives. I made the mistake of over planning my trip & bought in advance a ticket for the rail trip to the Jungfrau. On the day I and a train full of Japanese took the trip and on arrival the cloud was so thick you could hardly see your hand in front of you face. Still the sight of dippy Japanese girls wearing T-shirts and wondering why it was so cold at 12,000ft made the day thoroughly enjoyable. Moral of story- check the weather forecast and buy your ticket on the day. You will get a discount with a Swiss Pass so the cost will be 137.40CHF. The Japanese will take all the reserved seats, of course.
