The Portes du Soleil ski domain is the largest internationally linked ski area in the world, crossing the borders of both France and Switzerland. There are 14 individual resorts making up this vast domain, eight on the French side, and six in the Swiss Portes du Soleil; Champery, Champoussin, Les Crosets, Morgins, Torgon and Le Bouveret.

There are over 650km of pistes available from a Portes du Soleil chalet, in both France and Switzerland, from the gentle, scenic valley runs to the technique testing, stamina sapping runs higher in the Alps. Of the 266 ski runs available on Portes du Soleil lift passes, 26 are black, 100 red, 106 blue and 34 green, catering perfectly for mixed ability groups and family holidays taking advantage of the world leading facilities on the front doorstep of your Portes du Soleil chalet. There are also over 200km of cross country skiing trails, 9 snowparks, 3 half pipes and 4 boardercross circuits available on a Portes du Soleil lift pass, giving every level of skier and snowboarder enough world class skiing to keep them happy for a lifetime! The Portes du Soleil lifts open from the middle of December until the last week of April most years. There are many Portes du Soleil lift passes, from those only valid for a single resort to those accepted throughout the domain.

When the Portes du Soleil lifts open, there are over 1,200 ski instructors to help you develop your technique, teach your children or let you try a new style of skiing or snowboarding. However, if you feel like a break from the slopes during your stay in a Portes du Soleil chalet, there is plenty to try. Throughout the resorts of the Portes du Soleil are an incredible amount of facilities for activities as diverse as under-ice driving or snow kiting to the better known activities of snowshoeing, para-gliding, ice-skating, horse riding and hot air balloon rides.

Places to visit on holiday in Portes du Soleil, Switzerland

Les Crosets is a fantastic place for snowboarders to rent a Portes du Soleil chalet. Set right in the heart of the domain, Les Crosets is a quiet resort, ideal for those wishing to get at the most fearsome terrain, and are on holiday primarily to ski or ride, not party. There is a fantastic snowboarding school and boardercross park here which helps with its reputation as a top snowboarding destination.

Torgon lies right on the border with France, with a real mix of skiing terrain. The pistes are mainly aimed at beginners and intermediates, although the backcountry is quite excellent. There are also a huge range of cross country trails, a world class restaurant and some great little bars to enjoy in the evenings.

Morgins boasts some incredible activity options throughout the year. The skiing is exemplary, and when the Portes du Soleil lifts open for the last time in a season, Morgins’ walking, white water rafting, rock climbing and para-sailing credentials become clear.

Summer in Val D'Illez

5 of 5
The apartment is really spacious and all the bedrooms are a good size with a lovely communal lounge/kitchen area. The views are truely stunning from every aspect of the apartment as well. I would highly recommend not only a Winter holiday here, but a Summer one as well as the walks and scencery are breath taking and the close vicinity to the lifts makes it very easy to get about. I will be rebooking this apartment again.

5 star comfortable flat

5 of 5
Flat bigger than we expected and immaculate. Owner met us in underground car park and was on site for any questions. She has to pay a tourist tax which means we got either free or reduced price on local transport. We spotted the free bike hire a few metres along the Lake but were too late to use them unfortunately. Stunning views and easy to get around - we loved the train up to Rochers de Naye, the paddle steamer across the Lake, a walk along the promenade to Chateau de Chillon, a look round the shops at Montreux. Terribly expensive to eat out and double the price for supermarket food compared to U.K. We would definitely recommend this apartment in a quiet , upmarket complex right next to the Lake.
