Dream-like mountain holiday - totally loved it.

Surely one of the best holidays we have had in a long time! For Londoners the road to get to Törbel might be a bit of a challenge to begin with, but once we arrived, everything was way better than ever imagined. Amazing house, unique views, the way everything worked, the equipment - blankets, kitchen stuff etc. - everything is just there and a total joy. Our dog loved it too. Great location for going hiking, we loved the Moosalp and its kitchen, and again - whatever you would need like walking maps or guides on restaurants or some background about the Vallais, it's all there. Incredible responsiveness from the owner of the house, who we met coincidentally at our early arrival - we felt totally looked after throughout our stay, very very helpful and a pleasure to deal with. We'll be back!

The pictures do not lie. This is a charming and intimate chalet in a stunning location .

If you want to stay in a large soulless hotel then look elsewhere . There are numerous hotels in this region and I'm sure many are good, but what you get with chalet rondo is the keys to a private family home: echoes of children now presumably grown up; access to the owners' reading matter and musical tastes . The chalet itself is small but has everything you could need, cleverly designed to maximise the space . Perched on the side of the mountain the panoramic view from the balcony is of endless mountains including a glacier on the left and the Matterhorn in the distance on the right . The villages of Riederalp, Bettmeralp and Fiescheralp occupy a car-free plateau (we parked for a week at the cable car station in the valley floor for 60 euros ). Access is via cable car which can be expensive ( a 5 day family pass covering all lifts cost us 230 euros ). However it is worth getting an all-access pass as it allows you to get to different parts of the mountain for walks and attractions . The villages have metalled roads so pull along suitcases are fine, and for excursions the lift pass means that once you are at a certain altitude you can walk on relatively level ground (similar to a walk in Wales or Scotland but not mountain climbing ). So a moderate degree of fitness is required to get around, and while the route to the chalet from the cable car is on a level road the final approach is via a steep grass path so pack light !
