We wanted to visit Sweden for some time, however had not got around to it. This year we decided it was time to go, and we have just had one of the best trips of our lives! When we saw this property on-line we fell in love, it was far enough away from the small town of Åre, but close enough that we wouldn’t be doing a road trip to get anywhere. It had everything we needed, peace, character, space and all the home comforts we wanted, the view from the table out across the river says it all. We had plenty of time so flew into Stockholm rather than one of theirs local airports, we hired a car (Avis were excellent) and drove for 4.5 hrs to Sundsvall and spent an evening relaxing in the large square in a very nice restaurant. Next morning we drove to Åre along the excellent Swedish roads. The views even on this drive we worthy of mention. Certainly if you like scenic drives or rides this is a country for you. It was a little challenging to find the road to the cabin, and we went down a few wrong ones as the first line of the address is shared with a number of roads, worth more prep than I did. On arrival at the cabin was beautiful, appears a little newer than the excellent photographs show. The road to it is a little steep in places so hire a good car, a Micra would struggle! Julia and Nicklas had left the house ready with wine and bread and notes around the area, we looked out to the river 30 or so meters away and saw a moose and it’s baby on the far side, we knew we were going to have a great time. The bedrooms are not huge, but they don’t need to be, there is an upstairs room which would be better as the master bedroom which would have a lovely view. The kitchen is great, and made self catering very easy. During the trip we: Climbed Åreskutan (Åre was voted into top ten ski resorts in the world) Rode down the mountain bike trails. Went white water rafting Went fishing for wild trout. Hiked all over Visited waterfalls Picked, and ate, kilos of beautiful wild blueberries Swam in the river and lakes Saw Moose and Red Squirrels Ate out a couple of times in Åre Visited Copperhill spa - not cheap, but we needed a proper Swedish massage after the above! Eating out and drinking in Åre is not cheap, but in Sweden the prices are a little higher due to taxes, but it’s worth it as everything works and the roads don’t have holes in them! The people we met were lovely, place and holiday was amazing. We would move there! Thank you so much.😁
