Located near the southern tip of beautiful St Lucia, Vieux Fort is the name of both the second largest town on the island and the area of St Lucia that encompasses both the town and a number of other, smaller communities. Although the majority of tourism takes place on the west coast of the island, Vieux Fort still has plenty to offer visitors, with the self-contained apartments and cottages in the area making great alternatives in a calmer setting.

Things to do in Vieux Fort, St Lucia

The town of Vieux Fort is split into an Old Town and a more modern area. Fridays and Saturdays are market days in Vieux Fort Old Town, and represent the perfect opportunity to pick up supplies to take back with you to your self-catering accommodation. Although many types of food, drink, spices and other provisions can be found here, it is fish that is the main theme.

The south of the island is home to some long sandy beaches that are far from overrun from tourists. Whether you want to have a Vieux Fort beach party and enjoy some of the famous Caribbean rums and cocktails, or if you would rather simply relax in a peaceful setting, the beaches around Vieux Fort are the place to do it. There are several to choose from, with Anse de Sables being a particularly good option.

The Maria Islands Nature reserve is a popular tourist attraction just off the south-east coast, and is home to some indigenous species of animals as well as being a breeding ground for leatherback turtles. The Interpretive Centre is a great place to start upon reaching the Reserve, and has information on the vast flora and fauna to be found. Visitors must book in advance before they make the journey across to the islands.

                      Great location and Vacation

                      4 of 5
The overall experence was great and we gave four stars only becuse of a few issues. Firstly, being charged a damage deposit fee, we were expecting to given a Pre-rental Inspection Form on check in but wasn't. I think that guest booking via homeaway should be careful and always enquire about this form before booking. Secondly, the resort needs an emergency generator as we were left without electricity and water one entire evening (the water works on an electrical water pump). And lastly the fact that there wasn't someone present at reception on check out (we had to find a maid and give her the keys). The villa was immaculate and furnishings are in perfect condition just as it looks in the pictures. The villa is very well maintained.I would and have recommended this villa to my friends but i dont recommend more than one couple at a time. The design of the villa is more for a family in my opinon mainly because of privicy issues, room lay out and location. We will return to this Villa when we next visit the Island.
