We stayed in "Banana Cottage" which was roomy and comfortable. Loved the wide balcony, eating dinner as the sun set over the sea or the rain rattled down (the rain was very well behaved and only came when we were driving or in the cottage!). Lovely gardens (Wanda's work), brilliant views (esp from the pool). The location is ideal - easy driving down to Soufrière or up to Castries for the market, Pigeon Island and the wild NW coast with the Atlantic breakers. Best of all - the hospitality of David and Wanda. They are genuinely kind hosts, full of knowledge that they are happy to share. We took a tour with David to the south on our first day, a great way of getting bearings and getting an introduction to the history and geology of the island. Breakfasts were lovely - fresh fruit, coffee, rolls and (if you're lucky) Wanda's very good pancakes. Sorry to be leaving after such a short visit, but we feel blessed that we found this wonderful place to stay. It really is a paradise! Room Tip: We loved our cottage (Banana). As many others have commented, the views from nearly every room are stunning. We particularly enjoyed throwing open the doors from the master suite in the morning and watching the boats come and go whilst sitting in bed! The villa is very private and you are not overlooked, which is very peaceful and relaxing. The pool is lovely and I was delighted to find the water wasn't too cool, so it was easy to jump in at any time of the day. The gardens are full of tropical flowers and fruit trees and my husband picked a grapefruit every morning to go with his fruit salad for breakfast. There were only two of us staying, but there is plenty of room for a large family or group of friends. We cooked in 3 or 4 nights including a BBQ one night. Lots of fridge and freezer space. There are a handful of restaurants down in Marigot Bay. Our favourites were Masala Bay, really good Indian food and Rainforest Hideaway with desserts to die for. It is a short but steep walk or drive down to the bay and when we did walk back up from dinner in the various restaurants in the bay we were grateful of the pool to cool off in once we got back. We hired a car and drove around most of the Island. A lot of the roads are steep and winding, but there isn't too much traffic, so relatively easy to get around and explore. You could get to Rodney Bay in the north or Soufriere in the south in an hour. Just keep your eyes peeled for pot holes. We also hired Kayaks in Marigot bay. Maggi was very responsive and helpful before we went and Pauline the house manager who lives next door was very helpful and friendly whilst we were there. We organised a snorkelling trip/sunset cruise with Pauline's partner who owns a boat. Highly recommended. Details are provided once you arrive in the Villa. Given St Lucia has a tropical climate, some bugs are inevitable. There is insect spray provided and we found it effective to spray the rooms we were using once we had closed the doors for the evening. We had a lovely trip to St Lucia and enjoyed our stay in Bois Rouge Villa.

Just had to tear ourselves away after 2 weeks at Blue Maho. This unique, spacious villa had begun to feel like home; it is an older property and has a few quirks but these mostly add to the charm. In general, the description of this villa was very accurate and we felt good value for money. However, some of the windows and mosquito screens could do with some attention. The through lounge is an ideal place for relaxation and the 2 main bedrooms really large and with efficient air conditioning. And the massive beds must be the most comfortable I have slept on while away on holiday. The good sized pool may be cold but is very refreshing to escape the heat. The view must be the top selling point of this villa, though. Overlooking the whole of Marigot Bay, you can spend hours watching yachts come and go, the little ferries going between the shores, the pleasure tours with their music, dancing and guides (not too many of these luckily!); plus in the evening you can see the cruise ships going back out to sea for the next leg of their journey. The manager Pauline was wonderful - she responded immediately to any problems and was full of useful information. She met us to guide us to the villa so we found it OK; however, perhaps some signs could be put up on the local roads to help people find it? There are several restaurants in Marigot Bay, most of which we tried. The Rainforest Hideaway is worth a visit if only for its position, Doolittles was rather disappointing, Mygo's OK and Juilettes at the top of the bay a good option. The drive to Soufriere, although only 20 miles, took us about an hour (we had hired our own car) but it is well worth a visit The road is in fairly good condition (compared to some of the other roads we drove on!) but winds its way up and down all the hills. We especially enjoyed the mud baths at the Sulphur Springs. And we had a couple of lovely lunches in the restaurants of 2 hotels: Hummingbird (just as you come into Soufriere) and Stonevillas Estate (on the hill going out of Soufriere). Another trip worth going on is the aerial tram ride; we managed (eventually) to find this ourselves but you might be better getting a taxi as it is really difficult finding your way around in a car once you get off the main roads; no road signs and rarely a sign to tell you which village you are in. Pigeon Island in the north is also worth a look. Altogether, a lovely holiday in the most beautiful bay on a beautiful island.
