Make a holiday rental property or accommodation in Sri Lanka your home away from home

Holidays to Sri Lanka, the Pearl of the Orient, are an all absorbing mix of beaches, naturally stunning landscapes and vibrant culture. There is so much to see, do and enjoy on the island that it would be impossible to do more than scrape the very surface in this rough guide to Sri Lanka, and you would be advised to buy a Sri Lanka travel guide in order to discover the finer points about the island. Located in the Indian Ocean, Sri Lanka holidays offer extremely good value for money, especially when you take into consideration the fantastically warm welcome you will receive, the stunning sights you will see and the great activities you will enjoy. Despite trying to avoid clichés, Sri Lanka can only be described as a green paradise!

Things to do on holiday in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka is adorned with amazing historical and religious monuments, many of which are completely unique. Any Sri Lanka tour of historic and religious monuments must take in sites including the staggering 5th century Sigiriya Fortress which rises dramatically out of the thick tropical forest, the ancient capitals of Polonnaruwa and Anuradhapura, Kandy’s religious centre to the cave temples of Dambulla at least! As you travel Sri Lanka’s roads, many more amazing man made sights will catch your eye, and the vast majority are worth further exploration.

The tropical beaches are a real asset for Sri Lanka holidays. Stretching almost uninterrupted around the coast, Sri Lanka’s beaches are powder soft and startlingly golden. Littered only by vividly coloured fishing boats, you can always find a secluded spot on the beach from a Sri Lanka property, and the sea is warm and clear, perfect for taking a quick dip, snorkelling or sailing amongst other water sports. The scuba diving in Sri Lanka is exceptional, and there are plenty of opportunities to go diving form Sri Lanka accommodation.

The tropical forests which cover the mountainous interior of Sri Lanka are a marvel of nature. Every shade of green blend together to hide some 2,000 elephants, four species of wild cats (including leopard), sloth bears and over 400 species of predominantly brightly coloured tropical birds. There are four main national parks in Sri Lanka, providing a magnificent opportunity to explore the forest.

The ten day festival of Kandy Esala Perahera in July is a fantastic time to be staying in a Sri Lanka property, allowing visitors to experience Sri Lankan culture at its most vibrant and accessible. As any Sri Lanka travel guide will tell you though, finding Sri Lanka accommodation at the time may prove hard.

Places to visit on holiday in Sri Lanka

The South Coast of Sri Lanka is a perfect place to relax on the beach, surrounded by tiny fishing villages, the fascinating colonial port of Galle and some of the most romantic spots on the whole island.

The West Coast of Sri Lanka is the traditional coast on which to take a Sri Lanka holiday. The beaches are fantastic and perfectly suited for family holidays and luxury beach breaks. The natural lagoons and inlets along the west coast mean that nature lovers will be thrilled by Sri Lanka accommodation on the west coast.

The central mountains of Sri Lanka are simply beautiful. This is the place to come for cultural explorations of Sri Lanka, especially around Kandy and Nuwara Eliya. Nature flourishes in the central region too, with much of the best natural landscapes for walking and tours of Sri Lanka’s finest historic sites.

Climate of Sri Lanka

The best time to visit Sri Lanka accommodation is between December and March, which is the main season for tourism in Sri Lanka, perfect for escaping the British winter. Throughout the year, Sri Lanka’s climate hardly changes in terms of temperature, with monthly averages staying between 30°C and 24°C throughout the year.

Travel to Sri Lanka

Reaching accommodation in Sri Lanka is easy. SriLankan Airways offer a range of flights to Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) from London, and there are a range of other travel options depending on the exact location of you Sri Lanka holiday rental.

We stayed in the Ballarat Villa for 14 days, the Owners were more than helpful, We would be happy to stay here again or at any of the properties managed by them.

Peaceful oasis!

5 of 5
We were a little unsure when we arrived on the street and were directed down an alleyway to the villa. But it is an oasis of calm and loveliness. The villa has everything you can possibly need and the beach is secluded and mostly empty, save for the odd person and cow, leaving an uninterrupted view of the ocean. Sudath was attentive and helpful, arranged trips and gave advice. The tuk driver was on hand and we often went into Hikkaduwa to eat, especially liking Mambos, Top Secret and Moonbeam. Breakfast was catered with delicious homemade jams and any other meal we wanted could be provided as well. We loved the tranquility, which compared with the bustle of local towns and found the villa incredibly relaxing. Sudath organised trips for us to Mirissa to see the whales, to Galle and organised a car to the airport. The temple in Ambalangoda was incredible and beautiful, the lying down Buddha was amazing. The moonstone mines are to be avoided and are a con, but the surrounding area is beautiful and we could not hesitate to recommend this villa. We had a wonderful stay. Thank you!
