Perfect family holiday base

4 of 5
As a family of 14 with ages ranging from 3 years to 58 years old pleasing us all is not easy, however our stay in Monachil was brilliant. The house is well sighted for walking in the hills or to the village, the village has plenty of bars, restaurants and supermarkets if you don't want to drive further afield. Clearly the house could be split into three separate units, but for us it afforded plenty of bedrooms and seating areas to be together or quiete when needed. Access to the house is via a single track road and gravel trail but don't be put off by this, we had no issues during the two weeks traveling on this. The house is old and interesting, the pool although small was great fun and used everyday by the whole family. The bedrooms are not luxurious but we're comfortable, if you follow the guidelines on opening and closing the windows and shutters the temperature at night is easily controlled. There was plenty of hot water although one of the showers is out of action we had no issues meeting our needs in the other two. The house is old and would benefit from from some TLC in the form of maintenance, equipment is varied and don't expect to find a set of anything, having said this we managed. It would benefit from some new glassware though, drinking wine from a tumbler is not perfect. In summary we had a great holiday, the house served our needs and did not disappoint, the area has loads to do, we had cars and didn't have any trouble entertaining our age range. We would most certainly consider staying again.

Beautiful, characterful apartment in historical part of Granada

5 of 5
Staying in such a historical apartment was the icing on the cake to a wonderful trip to Granada. The city exceeded my expectations. The Albayzin is just beautiful - a maze of ancient alleyways, with Spanishness seeping out of every whitewashed wall. The apartment is plenty big enough and is well situated right in the heart of the Albayzin but also a short walk from the main squares of Granada and within walking distance of the Alhambra too. There are vibrant shops, cafes and restaurants nearby, and picture postcard views of the Alhambra from nearby viewpoints (also from the bedroom window!). The apartment is simply but beautifully furnished and adorned. The kitchen is tiny but equipped enough for basic meals. Due to the age of the building and building regulations and restrictions (this being a UNESCO world heritage area) there isn't proper air conditioning, but builders of the past centuries knew how to make buildings in the Albaycin as naturally cool as possible. Bring earplugs as it can be noisy - but when I was there the 'noise' was the neighbour playing Spanish guitar (a free concert!). The host, Anita, is super helpful with enquiries and suggestions of where to go. Staying here is like stepping back in time (albeit with a shower, TV, DVD player and internet access!). So...don't stay here if you want 5* hotel standard mod cons. Do stay here if you want to experience staying in a World Heritage standard piece of history.
