Located at the foot of the huge El Torcal Natural Park, the hill town of Villanueva de la Concepcion is a fantastically laidback, atmospheric town surrounded by the most spectacular scenery anywhere in Antequera. The town remains small, although you will not want for restaurants or timeless cafes during your stay in any of Villanueva de la Concepcion’s properties for rent.

Things to do on holiday in Villanueva de la Concepcion, Spain

There are a surprising number of things to see in Villanueva de la Concepcion when you consider its size. The ruins of Roman villas in Villanueva de la Concepcion attract many discerning travellers, and there are still parts of the Roman forum, a large theatre and many smaller artefacts visible throughout the village and surrounding countryside. However, the village really comes to life during its two main annual festivals. If you are lucky enough to be staying in a self catering Villanueva de la Concepcion property during the February Carnival or the Summer Feria (around the middle of August), you will have an unrivalled chance to enjoy the village at its finest, when the streets are filled with revelling locals, local food stalls and the sounds of music and dancing.

As the entrance to the El Torcal Park Nature Reserve, self catering properties in Villanueva de la Concepcion are hugely popular with nature lovers and those with a desire to get out and explore the best of Spanish landscapes. Covering 17 square kilometres of staggering limestone rock formations, the park makes for essential viewing from any Villanueva de la Concepcion accommodation, as the main gates are located just over 1km from the centre of the village. There are three main walking routes, taking between half an hour and three hours, all clearly marked and taking in some of the finest viewpoint, from which the coast of Africa can be seen on a clear day.

During the winter months, the Sierra Mountains become home to the most southerly ski resorts in Europe, all of which are accessible in less than two hours from an apartment or villa rental in Villanueva de la Concepcion. The mountains also offer visitors a magnificent range of hiking, climbing and riding possibilities during the summer and autumn.

The amazing pre-historic monuments, tombs and dolmen which surround Antequera are certainly worth further investigation. The dolmen caves are particularly fascinating, but there is a huge amount to discover in the area. There are also a vast range of magnificent eateries within the town, ideal for a little refreshment after a tough day in the countryside and before you return to the comfort and luxury of your Villanueva de la Concepcion property rental.

Lovely little villa in a great location

4 of 5
I spent a week here in July with my family, 4 adults and 1 child. Very easy to find from the airport and in a great location with a supermarket 5 minutes drive away and the cost at Torremalinos about 20 minutes or so away. The grounds are lovely with a fantastic pool area with great mountain views and a fruit orchard with more plum trees than you can count! The house itself was more than adequate although I did think the kitchen a bit on the small side, but it had everything that you could want. Beds where comfortable. I cant speak for the lounge area or the TV facilities because we didn't use it all week, choosing to spend all our time under the covered porch. All in all we really enjoyed our stay there. The only downside during our stay was that i think there was a wasps nest, maybe in the fruit orchard as there was a large number around all of the time and both my wife and grandson got stung. Also the little "yappy" dogs across the road, yapping all day and most of the night, although i do understand these are outside of the owners control. I do feel that if the porch was enclosed in a fine mesh, this would help reduce the wasps/flys, particularly at meal times. With the wasps gone and if someone would "neck" the dogs opposite, I would happily revisit this property again

Lovely apartment, well appointed, central location

5 of 5
Marvellous, central, well appointed and comfortable apartment, great wifi (37Mbps), lively location. Convenient for everything - the Old Town, beaches, museums, art galleries, markets, shops, eateries etc. Excellent folder provided by owner of helpful sightseeing info, maps, leaflets, transport info - I felt immediately at home and well orientated. Very, very good communications with owner throughout the stay, flawless check-in and check-out. My first stay in Málaga city - its culture and beautiful Baroque architecture are a joy!
