Make a holiday rental home or villa in Vidreras, Spain your home away from home

Located 14km inland from the popular tourist destination of Lloret de Mar, Vidreras is a peaceful town that works as a gateway to the Costa Brava. Although accommodation options in the area are not found in abundance, what there is, is of a high standard, making it possible to visit the nearby beaches and enjoy the nightlife, but then have a quieter base to return to at the end of the day.

Things to do in Vidreras, Spain

Often also spelt ‘Vidreres’, Vidreras is a much more relaxing alternative than the busy nearby tourist resorts such as Lloret de Mar and Tossa de Mar. The town is situated a few kilometres inland, but the sea and the award-winning beaches of the Costa Brava can all be reached by public transport, though the use of a rental vehicle is recommended in order to make the most of your stay.

The most notable site in the town is the remains of the old castle, which is also pictured on the local flag and shield. Another point of interest is the Church of Santa Susanna, which dominates the town centre, and is encircled by a bevy of traditional Catalan shops. In these shops you can pick up some local produce to cook with when you return to your self-catering accommodation. Agriculture has long been the main economy in Vidreras, and the local produce is of a high standard.

Fishing is the other main source of income for Vidreras, and the best restaurants in town focus on seafood. With Vidreras being slightly off the beaten track you will be pleased to discover that prices are slightly lower than some of the more tourist-orientated towns and cities of the Costa Brava, and the quality is arguably higher.

Places to visit on holiday in Vidreras, Spain

Lloret De Mar has a well-established reputation as a party capital, but there are also other reasons to make the short journey from Vidreras worthwhile. These include several EU Blue Flag beaches, a number of archaeological sites of interest, and the restored 16th century Church of Sant Roma. 11km east along the coast, Tossa de Mar is a slightly quieter but equally attractive option, often described along the lines of ‘Lloret de Mar before mass tourism’.

Weather in Vidreras, Spain

A Mediterranean climate means that Vidreras experiences long, hot summers and mild winters. Although you are extremely likely to experience good weather when visiting in summer, you should always pack a coat in your luggage; the Costa Brava has many microclimates, and the weather could easily change at any given moment.

Flights to Vidreras, Spain

Girona – Costa Brava Airport (GRO) is located between Vidreras and Girona, 15km away. Fabulous location

5 of 5
Situated at the harbour end of town, with great views of the harbour, sea and surrounding mountains, what more could you ask for? The apartment is fully equipped and very comfortable. We were a couple , but there is ample room for six. The town is as you would expect ,very Spanish. There were few tourists and it's mostly the folk from Barcelona who frequent this lovely jewel. The beach is sweeping with very clean clear water. Plenty of restaurants to choose from, at all prices. Do not overlook the "casino ". There is a lot of history associated with it,and an extra plus is the food is excellent and the beer and wine is the best value in town ! Should you wish to self cater, the spa at the market square has all you will need at reasonable prices. Catering for yourself in the apartment is easy as it is very well equipped. We would definitely recommend this apartment and will certainly return.

Truly exceptional

5 of 5
This is truly an exceptional apartment just alongside the steps of Sant Feliu Church on the edge of the historical area of Girona. It is well equipped, comfortable and very pleasant to relax in with the french doors open in the living area and a view overlooking the activities in the square below. The bed was comfortable and the linens, and whole apartment, spotlessly clean. There's a quick lift up to the apartment which is on the third floor. An added bonus is the underground parking just a few steps away. Yes, it's a confined turning area into/out of the car park entrance, but perfectly manageable. The delightful owners were near the apartment to greet us as arranged and to help us into the parking area. Quite useful to have a satnav to get to the apartment area. A really excellent place to stay, we highly recommend to others looking for somewhere in Girona.
