Things to do in Velez Malaga, Spain

Velez is a wonderful old village with origins dating back as far as the Phoenician era, and with monuments and styles dating from almost every era until the present day. There is a huge amount to see and explore as you tour the village, including many important archaeological discoveries. The impressive Fortaleza castle is impossible to miss, with its 16m tower standing proud in the middle of the Arrabal de San Sebastian district of the village. The Palace of Marquises of Benial and the Hospital of San Marcos are well worth visiting, and the charming churches of Santa Maria la Mayor and San Juan Bautista are charming places, both filled with beautiful pieces of religious art.

Velez Malaga is a cultural and gastronomic centre on the Costa del Sol. The modern theatre, Teatro del Carmen sees a huge number of performances, from traditional plays to classical music, flamenco dancing to literature readings. The annual festivals in the Palacio de Beniel are well worth investigating, especially the February Carnival, the Real Feria de San Miguel in October and the Feria de la Veladilla del Carmen in July.

There are plenty of activities to keep the whole family happy from a holiday rental villa in Velez Malaga. The Costa del Sol beaches are just 4km away, whilst the famous Baviera Golf Course and the endless fun of the Aquavelis Water Park can both be reached in just a few minutes drive from the town.

Fantastic, it was mix of ages that went away, some in their 20s. We had so much space it was great to be just at the villa and we loved it so much we only went out one night in 7 days! x

A very beautiful and peaceful home from home

5 of 5
Having previously rented holiday properties in France, Italy and Spain, we have a good idea of what to expect from a holiday rental and what we like. From the initial booking stage until the day we left the property, Casa Amapola surpassed expectations. The owners, Rob & Juliet, were nothing but helpful, friendly and accommodating. Our flight arrived late at night but, thanks to clear, easy to follow directions, we found our way to the property with no problems and upon arrival we were absolutely delighted with what we found. The property is located in the most beautiful setting, the views are fabulous. The villa itself is spacious, clean, extremely well equipped, and it immediately felt like a home from home. A very generous welcome pack was provided which saw us through until we could make a trip to the supermarket. It’s hard to pinpoint all the positives as there are so many but, to list a few, the bedrooms were bright and comfortable, the living space was perfect and the provision of DVDs, CDs, books and games was just fantastic, the kitchen was equipped with everything (and I mean everything) you could need, and the terrace was bliss for sitting sipping wine of an evening and watching the sun go down. The best bit for us though, was definitely the pool. Holidaying with a toddler isn’t always easy but, our son was more than happy to splash about there all day. It was a definite boon having it all to ourselves and, thank you again to Rob and Juliet (who live downstairs), who told us to not worry about noise so we never had to fret about disturbing anyone. The area itself is well worth exploring. We had a day at the beach at Benajarafe and a great morning of retail therapy at the markets at Torre del Mar, amongst other things, but mostly we were just happy to spend time by the pool at the villa. We were so sad to leave. We’ve been back for a few weeks now and we are still pining for Casa Amapola and the sunshine. Rob & Juliet, we cannot thank you enough for allowing us to have the best family holiday we’ve ever had. We will most definitely return to your wonderful property.
