Make a holiday apartment in Valle del Tietar your home away from home

Located in a glorious natural setting to the west of Madrid, Valle del Tietar holiday apartments are geared towards holidaymakers who are up for fresh air and adventure. With soaring peaks, large swathes of protected nature, and rivers teeming with wildlife all nearby, you’ll want to get out and enjoy the numerous activities on offer around holiday homes in Valle del Tietar. Many rentals here cater to larger groups, and are suitably rustic, but still offer all the essential creature comforts. For added indulgence you might pick an apartment in Valle del Tietar that has access to an outdoor pool, garden or barbecue.

Things to do

-Outdoor recreation. What’s remarkable about this locale is the impressive variety of terrains that you can experience. Those with an adventurous bent make straight for the Circo de Gredos in the west; it’s a glacial cirque that can be tackled via a walking trail that begins at 1700 metres and ascends to a height of 2210 metres. Next to the Tietar River the landscape is gentle and easy-going, with striking views of the mountains in the distance.

-Heritage. In Arenas de San Pedro, at the foot of the Sierra de Gredos, you can see the magnificent Castillo de la Trista Condesa, a castle from the 14th and 15th Centuries. It’s well preserved and is listed as part of Spain’s cultural heritage. There are many picturesque towns and villages to see, with historic old-centres to stroll through. Talavera de la Reina is attractive, and boasts plenty of baroque architecture, including a 17th Century convent.

-Natural landmarks. One of the Tietar Valley’s most spectacular natural sights can be found at the Grutas del Aguila, a large mountainside cave, discovered in 1963. There are interesting stalagmites and stalactites here, and the temperature remains a steady 20 degrees all year round. The area is also dotted with interesting features like waterfalls, as well as natural pools, which make for superb swimming spots in summer.

-Gastronomy. The cuisine here is based on locally-sourced fish, meat and vegetables. Trout appears on many menus in the region, as it tends to thrive in parts of the Tieter River. Most dishes here are basic and rustic, but no less delicious. Meat stews usually entail lamb, beef or pork, cooked with chickpeas or white beans. Bread is of a very high quality here, while several wines in Castilla-Leon and La Mancha have denomination of origin.

-Golf. With two courses in the area, this sport is an alternative to more rough-and-ready activities. Palomarejos Golf in Talavera de la Reina is an 18-hole par-72 designed to cater to players of all standards. Well endowed with tricky water hazards, Candeleda Golf is just along the southern edge of the Gredos mountains, and enjoys privileged views of these impressive peaks.

Weather in Valle del Tietar

A very long way from the coast, Valle del Tietar holiday rentals are in a part of Spain with a continental Mediterranean climate. Rainfall is also quite scarce here, making conditions semiarid. Winters are cooler than in coastal areas, with temperatures that can drop below zero and rise to just below ten degrees by day. Summers though are long and very warm. From June to September daily highs reach the low-30s or more and aren’t known to slip far below 20 at night. The wettest weather takes place in October, November and December, which get almost half the annual rainfall.

Travel to Valle del Tietar

The closest major airport to holiday homes in Valle del Tietar is Madrid-Barajas (MAD), which is the largest in the country. There are links to the UK throughout the year with carriers of all kinds. Once you get here it’s probably best to have use of a car, because the Valle del Tietar is in a quiet, rural setting. By road this region is just under two hours from the airport, and you can use the A-5 Autopista to take you most of the way there.

We had a great holiday. The house was lovely and homely, the grounds and views were amazing. We were two families of four and there was plenty of space everywhere for us all. It was so peaceful (until our children started running around causing chaos!). Juan was excellent - he took the children to collect the eggs on the first day and meet the animals (which was then a feature of each day following!), was incredibly helpful when we had any queries, were planning little walking trips or going out on bikes etc. - he really helped enhance our holiday experience. The pool, table tennis, badminton and golf facilities meant there was plenty of outdoor fun to keep us all entertained. The bikes were great for a trip into Guisando. Picking and eating cherries straight from the trees was a big highlight of my trip! The surrounding area was beautiful for little walks through the pine forests in the mountains. All in all we had a brilliant time, loved the house and the surrounding area and were sad to be leaving!
