Make a holiday rental villa or apartment in Valdaliga, Spain your home away from home

Valdaliga is a delightfully rural municipality in Cantabria on the northern coast of Spain. Just a few minutes drive from Valdaliga accommodation is Oyambre Beach part of the Oyambre Natural Park, a fantastic conserved coastal ecosystem. Being within a natural park makes this a gloriously peaceful place to relax. The nearest restaurants and supermarkets are between three and eight kilometres away in La Rabia or San Vicente de la Barquera.

Things to do in Valdaliga, Spain

The most obvious thing to do while staying at a self-catering villa in Valdaliga is to enjoy the natural unspoiled surroundings. Towards the sea there are river estuaries, cliffs, meadows, cliff top forests, and sand dunes to explore. There are some very interesting waterfowl to be spotted around here. Inland are foothills and mountains with little villages and places of archaeological interest tucked away in unlikely places making this the perfect place for walking, riding, biking, swimming or just lazing on the beach.

A little bit further a field, but still within the auspices of the Oyambre Natural Park, is St Vincente de la Barquera, originally a fortified town, with numerous historic buildings and sights still to be seen in its old quarter on the hill. Fresh fish restaurants abound in the harbour here and there are other fantastic restaurants shops and tourist facilities.

If you are looking for some rounds of golf, Golf Dumas de Oyambre is just 500 metres from your Valdaliga holiday apartment and is highly rated. A little further away, but within easy reach by motorway, is the popular ski resort of Alto Campoo, which would certainly worth the trip if you stay in Valdaliga in the winter. In the summer the area affords activities like climbing and kayaking, while back on the coast diving is an option for the more active visitor. Also worth exploring are the Caves of Soplao in the Valdaliga hills.

Places to visit in Valdaliga, Spain

If you want to take a day out for more urban pursuits a visit to Santander is well worth the drive from rental villas in Valdaliga. The capital of Cantabria is dates back to Roman times, and along with its historic buildings, museums, galleries and sights it is a bustling modern city with all the shops, restaurants and facilities you could want. The cuisine here is particularly interesting, poised as it is between the mountains and the sea.

If you are staying at a holiday villa in Valdaliga in summer you can expect the weather to be hot but not unbearably so. This area enjoys the benefits of the Gulf Stream meaning warm summers and mild winters with more rain than the more southern areas of Spain.

Valdaliga self-catering accommodations is only 50 minutes from Santander Airport (Parayas) (SDR). You can get here all year round from London-Stansted (STN) with the budget airline Ryanair.

Cozy, comfy and relaxing.

Rosana was most welcoming and explained everything about the area, not to mention providing a terrific meal complete with chocolate cake, a bottle of wine and breakfast supplies so we did not have to run out after a day of driving. It was so nice to have supplies like bread, butter, salt, pepper and spices on hand. We took advantage of nearby hikes, beach walks and local restaurants. Everyone was very friendly. We enjoyed the mountain and ocean views.

Ideal location, incredible views

The flat is in an ideal location to visit many sighs in Cantabria and Asturia. Just the right size and well equipped for four people. As a bonus amazing views on the town and surrounding! We really enjoyed our stay.
