Make a holiday apartment in Tetuán your home away from home

Those looking to spend their holiday in a more affordable area in Madrid will find a holiday home in Tetuan to be their best choice The old apartments in Tetuán are in huge contrast to the majority of its residents, who are mostly young Madridians looking for cheap accommodation; their presence makes Tetuán’s atmosphere lively and unique. However, there are also a number of Tetuán holiday flats and penthouses that are modern and more suited to families and friends visiting Madrid in groups. Tetuán is home to Madrid Central Mosque and the Picasso Tower, one of the most relevant skyscrapers of the city.

Things to do

-Picasso Tower: This tower was built at the Picasso Square in 1988 by the architect Minoru Yamasaki – the genius behind the World Trade Centre buildings in New York. At 157 metres tall, it was the tallest building in Madrid for almost 20 years– between 1988 and 2007. There’s a café at the top of the tower where holidaymakers can enjoy a glass of wine as well as unobstructed, scenic views of Madrid.

-The Irish Rover: It opened its doors in the summer of 1995 and has since become one of the more popular theme-bars in the whole of Europe. The Rover gives diners a feel of what pubs and bars in Ireland are like, with a well-stocked bar, pool tables at the back and ample seating for those who would rather sit down for a talk or enjoy a full meal; upstairs, they will find a cosy library where they can enjoy an Irish coffee as they curl up on the sofa and read a book or the daily newspaper. There is also the Harbour bar, for sports fans; they can watch a football game here as they enjoy a drink and the company of other sports fans. Really, there are few better ways for those staying in Tétuan holiday homes to spend an evening.

-Tetuan Street Market: Every week the Tétuan Street Market is held in Avenida de Asturias. The products sold here are so diverse: from second-hand clothes, to books, pottery, handicrafts and even furniture. Not all prices are set, so shoppers may walk away with a few good bargains under their belts. Its wide range of products and affordable prices make it popular among both the locals and tourists. Residents of self catering holiday rentals in Tétuan can secure their groceries and weekly necessities from here.

-Central Mosque: it is the second biggest mosque in Madrid. It is located at the Cuatro Caminos (Four Roads) neighbourhood of Tetuán district. The building has four floors, in which visitors will find a nursery, a school, a library, an auditorium and a shop.

Weather in Tetuán

Temperatures in Tetuán are highest between June and August, ranging from 29ºC to 33ºC at their highest and 15ºC and 18ºC at their lowest. This is when tourists are most likely to find many other tourists here, sun-bathing and enjoying Madrid’s warm weather. For a quieter holiday, visit in winter. Those who opt for a holiday in winter, however, should come prepared for rain, very low temperatures and snow.

Travel to Tetuán

For those travelling to Tetuán by air, the nearest airport is the Madrid Barajas airport, which is about 40 minutes away from Tetuán. After the plane lands here, there is the option of using the subway to get to Tetuán’s Metro Station from the airport. From here tourists can either get a train or a bus to their Tetuán holiday home.

Spacious, well-appointed and good all-round experience

5 of 5
I was staying in Madrid for work and wanted to be close to the Chamartin/Cuatro Torres area. Inma's apartment was ideal - 10 minutes walk to the office in a quiet residential neighbourhood with great transport links. Easy to get to and from the airport and the city centre, this was perfect for me. Plenty of local options nearby for food and drinks including supermarkets around the corner. The apartment itself is large, with plenty of space to relax. Beautifully appointed, clean and cosy. Everything you need is provided for a comfortable stay. All communications with Inma were friendly and efficient, and everything worked perfectly.
