Soller, Majorca (Mallorca)

Soller, on Majorca’s northwest coast, is split into two distinct parts; the port, Port de Soller and the main town 3km inland, Puerto Soller, which lies in a wide bowl shaped valley. Peacefully tucked away in the lush countryside of Majorca, both summer and winter holidays in Soller are hugely popular with those looking for a peaceful rest, a walking holiday or beach break. Time does not move quickly in Soller, and a holiday rental apartment in Soller is going to provide a blissfully tranquil holiday set in idyllic surroundings.

Places to holiday in Soller, Majorca (Mallorca)

Soller or Puerto Soller is the only resort along the rugged northwest coast of Majorca. However, there are two other villages at the bottom of the Puig Major, Fornalutx and Biniaraix. Here, the traditional Majorcan way of life seems to have changed little over the past few hundred years, and are delightful places to indulge in Majorcan culture, even if just on a day trip from a self catering holiday rental in Puerto Soller

Things to do in Soller, Majorca (Mallorca)

A walk around the town from your Soller villa can prove to be a fascinating trip. Within the city limits are two museums, a botanical garden, and architecture dating back to the 13th Century, mixed perfectly with modern buildings. The main square in Soller is beautiful, capped by the Church of Saint Bartholomew. There are a large number of magnificent walks both along the shores of the coast and through the mountains, and there are many great books detailing routes of differing lengths and difficulties.

Soller’s beach is small yet delightful. It is in an almost perfect crescent bay sheltered by two headlands, but there are very few facilities, although there are plans to create a second, artificial, beach with a promenade to match.

Soller is a magnificent resort offering a rare combination of peace, beaches, mountains and unspoilt nature, although if you are looking for a beach resort with bustling nightlife and full beaches, keep looking!

Weather in Soller, Majorca (Mallorca)

All year round, the lifestyle of the Majorcan locals remains similar, as there are few variations in climate. In the summer, average temperatures remain an extremely pleasant 27°C, and in the depth of winter, temperatures are still above a mild 14°C. This makes a villa in Soller a magnificent spot for a last minute get away for summer and winter holidays.

Flights to Soller, Majorca (Mallorca)

Soller is around half an hour from Palma Airport (PMI), and the apartments and villas in Soller are well connected by road, train and tram services.

Idyllic hillside hideaway

5 of 5
It would be hard not to gasp when first approaching this authentic Spanish finca. Overlooking Soller town, the property is situated on a series of attractive, well maintained terraces and is secluded and private with sensational views across the valley to the surrounding mountains. Our visit was as a couple in November but even so we were able to breakfast on the terrace in the morning sunshine and cosy evenings were spent around the log burning living room fire - bliss! The accommodation is traditional Spanish country style with modern amenities perfect for a family group of up to 8 or even four couples. As the days were drawing in, the pool was not in use but its spectacular position seemed to cry out for lazy days and barbecues! There is parking for up to 3 cars on site and Soller is minutes away by car or a 10 minute walk. Supermarkets are easily accessible as are restaurants, bars and cafes in this attractive little town. The property is ideal for further exploration of Mallorca too. The Soller tunnel enables easy access by car or bus to Palma and the towns of Port Soller, Deia, Valdemossa and Fornalutz are close by and all worth visiting. Walks for all levels of ability in the hills and mountains abound and are well signposted with the walker always rewarded by the next beautiful view. You're in for a treat!

Lovely house - great location

5 of 5
The house was perfect for our family of four adults for a few days of rest and relaxation between Christmas and New Year. Full of character and thoughtfully furnished. We were very lucky with the weather, so were able to make the most of the sunny garden as well as the various cozy sitting areas in the evenings. Being such a short walk away from the town centre was wonderful, so we could mix eating in and eating out whenever we wanted without needing to use the car. The kitchen is so well equipped that it really felt like home. We really appreciated all the homely touches in the house and the quirky mix of art/sculpture. All the rooms were so much bigger than they appear in the photos, particularly because of the high ceilings. We were concerned that the house might be cold and draughty in winter, but the radiators kept it lovely and warm - although the boiler (oil fired?) was rather smelly. We never needed to use the wood-burner although wood and lighters were supplied. The only downside was the water pressure in the bathrooms. It was great to have three shower rooms for three bedrooms, but we had to have a rota to have showers, as only one could shower at once without taking water from the other. Fine when there were only four of us and family - but would have been more annoying with more people and/or people who know each other less well. If money needs to be spent anywhere in this house, the bathrooms need updating and power showers put in. This was our third visit to Soller, and we absolutely love the whole area: the town, the wonderful walks, the port, and the climate! We will definitely be back, and Cas Panares may well be our new best-kept secret!
