Soller, Majorca (Mallorca)

Soller, on Majorca’s northwest coast, is split into two distinct parts; the port, Port de Soller and the main town 3km inland, Puerto Soller, which lies in a wide bowl shaped valley. Peacefully tucked away in the lush countryside of Majorca, both summer and winter holidays in Soller are hugely popular with those looking for a peaceful rest, a walking holiday or beach break. Time does not move quickly in Soller, and a holiday rental apartment in Soller is going to provide a blissfully tranquil holiday set in idyllic surroundings.

Places to holiday in Soller, Majorca (Mallorca)

Soller or Puerto Soller is the only resort along the rugged northwest coast of Majorca. However, there are two other villages at the bottom of the Puig Major, Fornalutx and Biniaraix. Here, the traditional Majorcan way of life seems to have changed little over the past few hundred years, and are delightful places to indulge in Majorcan culture, even if just on a day trip from a self catering holiday rental in Puerto Soller

Things to do in Soller, Majorca (Mallorca)

A walk around the town from your Soller villa can prove to be a fascinating trip. Within the city limits are two museums, a botanical garden, and architecture dating back to the 13th Century, mixed perfectly with modern buildings. The main square in Soller is beautiful, capped by the Church of Saint Bartholomew. There are a large number of magnificent walks both along the shores of the coast and through the mountains, and there are many great books detailing routes of differing lengths and difficulties.

Soller’s beach is small yet delightful. It is in an almost perfect crescent bay sheltered by two headlands, but there are very few facilities, although there are plans to create a second, artificial, beach with a promenade to match.

Soller is a magnificent resort offering a rare combination of peace, beaches, mountains and unspoilt nature, although if you are looking for a beach resort with bustling nightlife and full beaches, keep looking!

Weather in Soller, Majorca (Mallorca)

All year round, the lifestyle of the Majorcan locals remains similar, as there are few variations in climate. In the summer, average temperatures remain an extremely pleasant 27°C, and in the depth of winter, temperatures are still above a mild 14°C. This makes a villa in Soller a magnificent spot for a last minute get away for summer and winter holidays.

Flights to Soller, Majorca (Mallorca)

Great property for a large group of family/friends

5 of 5
Ca’n Tamany shares the salt-water infinity pool with Ca’n Baixo . Ca’n Tamany was well equipped – air-con, washing machine, coffee makers, microwave, sunloungers etc. I liked that there were bits and pieces left in the kitchen eg condiments, washing up liquid, refuse bags. There is a large terrace with a built-in barbecue and outside sink. Wi-Fi was excellent. The pool is between the two and Baixo has a huge outside kitchen and dining area with seating for 10+ people. The pool has plenty of sun loungers and umbrellas and a dedicated toilet so you don’t have to go back to the house. There is a little children’s playhouse in the grounds. Tamany is a little more private as you walk past Baixo to get to it. It is amongst the olive trees so you may need mosquito repellent/citronella candles. Jaume (the owner) was very helpful. Electricity is additional –readings are taken from the house and pool when you arrive and leave. The pool electricity is shared with the other house. There is also tourist tax to pay – max. 1euro/day pp depending on how long you stay. There is plenty of parking and an electric operated gate. We would have liked two sets of keys as you need the RCU even if you are exiting on foot. The only negatives were that we found the mattresses too soft so had to put them on the floor. However, this was our personal taste. There is also some traffic noise from the Puerto de Soller tunnel and the roundabout where the buses terminate. It’s convenient being so close and, if you live in a town, you may not even notice it. It is a five minute walk to the port or to pick up a bus or taxi. However, walking back from town, the last part is steep and the road, although not busy, is dark. We used phone torches to make ourselves visible. Taxis into Soller cost 8 Euros (the tram costs 7 euros per person). The Soller Tunnel Express bus (No 211) to/from Palma cost us 12,80 Euros one-way for four people (the vintage train which costs 18 Euros pp one-way or 25 Euros return). The bus takes around 30 mins. The train is a lovely 90 minute ride through the mountains into Palma. There are loads of lovely bars, restaurants, shops and supermarkets within walking distance or a short journey away in Soller. There’s an excellent market in Soller on Saturday morning till about 1pm (and a few stalls in Puerto de Soller on Thursday mornings selling bread and cakes, cheese and meats, clothes and leather goods. Would definitely return.

Views to die for...

We've just returned from a fantastic 10 day stay at Villa Lemon. The villa is extremely comfortable with high quality furniture and fittings and a powerful shower. The kitchen is well equipped, not that we wasted much time cooking. There's no indoor lounge as such, just the dining table and chairs (my error in not noticing in the description), but we didn't spend any time sitting indoors though so not a problem. The outdoor areas are spacious with good quality sunloungers and sofa set on the lower terrace. Unfortunately the parasol was broken during a previous guests' stay, but we were able to move part of the outdoor sofa into the shade at hot times of the day. Ian explained future plans to replace the current pool with an infinity pool, another place to admire the view from. Yes, it's a steep walk up the lane to Villa Lemon, but the reward was the view, something we never tired of. It was also a good leg workout in lieu of going to the gym. Thankfully Ian was there to meet us on arrival he took us and our luggage up the villa (note to self; pack lighter next time just in case he's not there!). We loved Soller, the town centre only a 10 minute walk away, a place that caters for tourists without losing its charm and character. We regularly walked to the port (45 mins) either for coffee and almond cake in the morning or for dinner in the evening. We would definitely recommend the G&T menu at Cava in the port and the food was good too. It was too hot to do the walks we'd planned, but the stroll to Biniaraix was lovely. Ian and Andrea answered our booking enquiries promptly and were available by phone during the visit to deal with any queries. We would definitely return, perhaps at a slightly cooler time of year to be able to enjoy more walking in the surrounding area.
