This neighbourhood is great for getting around Barcelona, just a few stops on the Metro from the very heart of the city. But there’s also plenty to see in the immediate vicinity of Sants-Badal holiday homes; if you’re a sports fanatic then you can live your dreams at fabled venues like the Olympic park and FC Barcelona’s Camp Nou. Culture vultures make a beeline for the famous Parc de Montjuïc, home to many of the top museums, like Fundació Joan Miró. With fully fitted kitchens, self-catering stays are made all the easier at Sants-Badal holiday apartments.

Things to do

-Local attractions. The Sants-Montjuïc district is packed with excellent museums, which is partly because the 1929 Barcelona International Exposition was held locally – one remnant from this event is the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion, a hugely influential piece of architecture. Other museums to see locally include the National Art Museum of Catalonia, which has a fantastic collection of Romanesque works, and the Joan Miró Museum, dedicated to one of Spain’s most important artists.

-Montjuïc. This hill is one of Barcelona’s most famous landmarks, and is where many of the buildings for the 1992 Olympic Games can be found, including the spectacular open-air swimming pool. If you’re feeling up to it you can climb to the top of the hill to enjoy one of the city’s best views. There’s also a funicular from the summit to Barceloneta, built for the ’29 Exposition.

-Sights. Barcelona is synonymous with fin-de-siècle architecture and the eccentric works of Antoni Gaudí. Make for l’Eixample to see exquisite buildings like La Pedrera, famous for its unusual curves, and the colourful Casa Batlló, which could be something out of a fairytale. The showstopper is the Sagrada Família church, which due to its unbelievable detail is still under construction 90 years after it was started.

-Shopping. Whatever you’re looking far, be it high fashion or authentic local produce, there’s a wealth of shopping to discover in Barcelona. Trendy young visitors will make for Born in the Ciutat Vella or Maremagnum down on the waterfront. Luxury shoppers should look no further than Passeig de Gràcia in l’Eixample, home to all the premium brands.

-Cuisine. It’s not hard to find good food in Barcelona. Pintxos, the Basque form of tapas, is a fantastic way to enjoy authentic cuisine in an informal setting – they’re open sandwiches, often topped with a variety of exciting flavour combinations. Catalan food meanwhile is being updated all the time – in l’Eixample you can find cutting-edge Catalan restaurants like the Michelin-starred Cinc Sentits.

Autumn and spring conditions are pleasantly warm or mild – these fringe seasons are very short and usually last little more than a month each. Winters tend to be mild, lasting from December to March, and bringing daily highs between 13 and 16 degrees.

From there it’s just a couple of stops on the Metro to the local Mercat Nou stop, changing at Plaça de Sants.

Good value apartment for those who like to cater for themselves, especially as there are supermarkets and shops very close by. The metro is also about 2 minutes away and with the great value ten trip cards, all of Barcelona is accessible on the excellent public transport system.
