Things to do in Roses, Spain

Roses remains a quiet, relaxed resort, despite the top quality sports facilities and exquisite beaches that line the huge, sweeping Roses Bay. The bay is home to the Costa Brava’s largest fishing fleet, based out of the port which today shelters in the shade of the large sporting marina. Sailing, deep sea fishing and scuba diving excursions are particularly popular from Roses Marina, especially as many of the most idyllic beaches in the area are accessible only by boat. Windsurfing holidays also thrive from Roses accommodation.

Roses Bay is inundated with beaches, stretching all the way around the inside of the bay to the south of the resort. To the north, the coastline becomes much more rugged and natural, with many little cove beaches to choose from. These beaches are often hard to reach, and only those on foot or with access to a boat will be able to reach them.

Roses benefits hugely from the glorious countryside that surrounds the town. Located on the edge of two separate nature reserves, the much celebrated Parc Natural dels Aiguamolls de l’Emporda and the unique Creus Cape Peninsula reserve which is home to an astonishing range of globally unique plant species, property in Roses, Spain is an ideal base for nature lovers. The mixed terrain of salt marshes, sand dunes and coastal lakes make these two parks some of the most interesting for viewers, with a vast range of bird species and wildlife which can be seen from the many hides throughout the parks. Walking, cycling and horse riding adventures are encouraged.

Fantastic Family Apartment

5 of 5
We've just returned from a great two week stay and can't say enough about how great the apartment was and how helpful Emil was during our stay. So, useful info... we're a family of four - two adults, two children aged 10 and 7. The apartment had everything we needed for our stay, the pictures given on this site are all accurate. The kitchen is modern, clean and well stocked with crockery, cutlery, glasses, pots, pans etc as well as a much used coffee maker! Lounge area has plenty of space, bedrooms have plenty of storage and there's room for suitcases in the large washing machine cupboard. Bathroom is modern and clean, plenty of towels. Balcony area was perfect for sitting out in the evening to eat as well as to just relax and have a glass of wine once the kids were in bed. Pool area is clean and well maintained, plenty of space for everyone. Apartment block as a whole is very clean and looked after well. Supermarket next door is handy and always very busy, Carrefour is just a short walk or drive away and is probably a bit better. For us the location was perfect - it's about a 10-15 min walk down to the 'main' area and beach of Santa Margarita so close enough but away from the hustle and bustle. It would probably take 20-30 mins to walk in to Roses along the beachfront with the children, though we didn't try it. It takes about 10 mins to drive in to Roses centre and is very straightforward. There is a lot to do in the local area both beach sport and historic sites. With older kids a lot of adrenalin beach activities to try nearby. The Aqua Park was a big hit with our children, we went on an overcast Tuesday and didn't have to queue very much for any of the rides, I think it would be a very different story on a sunny day. Emil was a great host - met us at the apartment with no problems, even though we arrived later than expected. He gave us lots of advice on places to visit, the best beaches, restaurant tips and most importantly the best places for croissants and pain chocolat! When we had one slight issue with the apartment - a door sticking - he was round and sorted it straight away. Really couldn't have asked for anything more, he was great! Highly recommend the accommodation for a family.
