Perfect for large groups of friends and families, Ribera de Ebro cottages are rural in character, but designed to offer indulgence, with pools, private gardens and useful conveniences like Internet access. Visiting a holiday home in Ribera de Ebro you’ll have a wealth of options for days out, depending on your taste. Things to do

-Outdoor recreation. This location, on the banks of the wide River Ebro, is ideal for water-based activities like kayaking and angling. Guided fishing trips are also available here. The river valley is nestled between mountain ranges like Els Ports, where you’ll be able to take scenic walks and visit beautiful medieval hermitages and monasteries.

-Local heritage. One of the major historic landmarks in the area is the 11th Century Miravet Castle, which sits atop a cliff and was originally a Moorish fortress. The keep here is mostly intact, and from the ramparts you can take in wonderful views of the green landscape of the Ebro River. This is also an important wine-growing region, with terraced vineyards hugging the lower slopes of the mountains and a host of wineries to visit in nearby Priorat.

-Family fun. No more than 45 minutes away, Port Aventura is Spain’s premier theme park, with a host of state-of-the-art white-knuckle rides and choreographed shows. There’s also a water park, considered one of the best in the world – Costa Caribe has a network of pools and numerous flumes, from gentle to high-speed.

-Tarragona. This city holds UNESCO World Heritage status for its impressive Roman heritage. Tarragona was once Spain’s most important Roman stronghold, and clues to this role can be found across this town. There’s an impressive amphitheatre, defensive walls, an aqueduct, quarry and forum here, as well as the National Archaeology Museum providing extra artefacts and detail.

-Coast. The Mediterranean is only half an hour away, and ideal if you’d like some relaxing beach time. One of the closest resorts is Salou, which is a lively, modern destination blessed with a long and wide sandy beach. Just down from there are other gorgeous beaches at Montroig, Miami Platja, Hospitalet and Almadreva.

Traditional apartment under the castle walls with stunning views of river

4 of 5
Loved our stay at this apartment in Mora d’Ebre, the view from the balcony is the best feature with always something going on in the river. A lovely way to pass the time with a glass of wine watching the fishermen catch carp, the local children swimming or the kayakers and long boats rowing on the river. We were very lucky to be in Mora whilst it held a medieval festival and this was a well organised event with something for everyone. The nearby villages (especially Miravet with its castle) were worth visiting and Tortosa is a must. You are only 40 mins from the coast and the estuary at Riumar where you can find lovely walks on the nature reserve or visit the unspoilt beaches. The owners were very helpful and ensured we had all the information we needed including very good directions on how to find the apartment, thanks Dena for a lovely stay in your apartment.

Small but almost perfectly formed

4 of 5
The location was absolutely perfect for us, equi-distance from the Ebro delta and the Natural Parks which we wanted to explore. The setting was peaceful with no immediate neighbours and nicely set away from the road. When we weren't out exploring we spent most of our time on the covered terrace to the rear which was an absolutely essential addition to the property. A bit of a shame the owner couldn't have made it level though! Insect screens had been put in the two bedroom windows which was much appreciated. It would be nice if the property had them in all windows as the mozzies and flies can be a problem. Although the bathroom is tiny, the shower is a great size! However, the showerhead needs to be replaced as the seal seems to have gone. But that's a detail. We understand the settee is being replaced which is good news! The owner is very welcoming and accommodating and we would stay here again.
