A spacious house with beautiful views and an excellent location.

We stayed for a week with a family of 5 - including a 20, 16 and 13 year old. We were warmly welcomed by Lourdes, the owner, who was really helpful and had excellent English. The house was spacious, cool and relaxing. This has been a family home, and not a soulless IKEA showhouse done purely for tourists - some of the appliances are not brand new, but everything is fully functional. The kitchen is well equipped, with an excellent induction hob, and there is a fridge, freezer, small dishwasher etc etc. The teenagers were very pleased that the wifi was excellent(!) - for younger children there is a huge garden with a playhouse and lots of ride-on toys, dolls prams provided. We loved sitting outside on the patio, surrounded by amazing scenery. The location was excellent - just a few minutes to the local town of Amurrio, which has everything you really need, plus a direct train line into Bilbao. The coast is only an hour away (we especially enjoyed the surf beach at Sopela, but there are more sheltered beaches for those with younger children). There is a national park on the doorstep, a nature reserve with walks/cycling at Vitoria-Gasteiz, and Lourdes has carefully put together a trail around some local beauty spots and places of intererst - the lake at Marono was a fantastic picnic/bbq spot completely unknown to tourists. The property is easy to find. and get to and from, being just off the main A-624 road. This road does cause some noise - we didn't find it instrusive, but if you really object to road noise this may not be the house for you. We thought it was an excellent property however, and would happily come back again.

Lovely place, very pleasant, helpful people!

We had a lovely holiday staying at Casa Respal. Felica and her Sister Nati both made us very welcome and even went out of their way staying up until 11 pm to show us into the property. The house met all our needs and was very comfortable. The fourth bedroom doubles up as a sitting room, which is on the same floor as the rest of the bedrooms, but the sofa bed is comfortable and the room makes a good bedroom. There is another sitting room area in the large kitchen/dining room area downstairs, which is where we spent most of our time. We should point out that the internal staircase is rather narrow and steep, not for anyone with mobility problems, but the outer staircase, within the communal area, is more than adequate. There was a slight problem with the boiler while we were there, but this was soon attended to while we were out for the day and was working perfectly again on our return. Nati and her lovely daughter kindly took us to the local reservoir at Morono, which has a good picnic spot and lovely views. They also pointed out a good restaurant there, which we went back to later on in the week and had an enjoyable meal, three courses, bread and wine for only 11.50 euros. The local shop seemed to have closed, but there is a pharmacy and three bar/restaurants in the village, however, these only serve meals until 4 pm and two are closed on a Wednesday evening, the local town of Amurrio has an adequate Eroski supermarket and there seem plenty of Carfour express minimarkets and supermarkets dotted around. One helpful suggestion is that the owners could perhaps provided a folder left in the house containing local information, for example, local supermarkets, emergency numbers, attractions etc and perhaps a book for visitors to add useful tips. Our tip would be if you want to see the Nervion Waterfall visit it in Winter or Spring as when we visited it in June, despite a lot of rain prior to the visit, the waterfall was dried up, but we did see some stunning Griffen Vultures. All in all we can highly recommend this property and the owners, Feli and Nati, for those of you who want to holiday in this area. Vitoria-Gasteiz and Bilboa are also worth a visit.
