The small settlement of Pravia is located inland, in the northern Spanish region of Asturias. Your holidays in Pravia will soon reveal that this part of Spain is far more undiscovered than the eastern and southern coasts, but this will be to your absolute benefit for the duration of your stay - as it really is other tourists’ loss. There is all of the usual perks of any Spanish holiday to enjoy in this part of the country and everything can be discovered away from the swarm of crowds you will experience elsewhere.
As we have already stated above, your holidays in Pravia will offer all of the usual activities you could expect on any holiday to sunny Spain. This includes the likes of swimming, golf, tennis, cycling, nature walking, horse riding, canoeing and mountain biking. Although your holidays in Pravia will be spent inland, it is less than an hour’s drive to the Asturias coast - offering all the other water-based activities we all love to participate in on our holidays. Including sports such as water skiing, surfing, wind surfing, scuba diving and snorkelling.
Your holidays in Pravia will be spent in a part of northern Spain that is ideally situated in an area where you can make the best out of no less than three regions: of course, Asturias itself; as well as Galicia to the west and Cantabria to the east. If you drive for an hour or so to the east of your comfortable self catering accommodation in Pravia, you will soon reach the immensely beautiful Parque National de Picos de Europa which contains some stunning mountain scenery and drives. If you decide you would like to check out some of the culture and history of northern Spanish cities there are three within a couple of hours’ drive that you should include: La Coruna is in Galicia and lies to the west, Santander is likely to be the city you arrive at and this is the largest settlement of Cantabria; and a little closer to home, you will find some interesting attractions in Oviedo.
For your holidays in Pravia you can expect to enjoy a climate that is far milder than back in the UK. Although having said this, do not expect it to be the same as that found in the Mediterranean. Average temperatures during the summer months should comfortably touch the mid- to high-twenties degrees Celsius. During the winter, you may see temperatures in the high single digits at times, but on average they should be in the low-teens degrees Celsius. Rainfall is higher in this part of Spain, at around 23 inches per year.
If you would prefer to travel to your self catering villa in Pravia by air, Santander Airport (SDR) will be your best bet. This is a couple of hours’ drive to the east of the area and takes in a service operated through Ryanair. This departs the UK from London Stansted (STN). Alternatively, Brittany Ferries operates a luxury ferry service between Plymouth and Santander - taking around 20 hours, but more like a pleasurable mini cruise.
