As the area is somewhat removed from the typical tourist route, it is a prime location if you’re interested in getting in touch with the locals, and really experiencing traditional Spanish culture. Portol is also known as something of an artist hangout, meaning that great traditional art, pottery and knick-knacks, along with their eclectic creators, are only a short stroll from your holiday villas in Portol. With options such as heated pools and stunning countryside settings, holiday accommodation in Portol is well appointed and well facilitated. From couples to large family groups, holiday homes in Portol suit a range of travelling parties.

Things to do in Portol

Although Portol may be a little quieter than other holiday destinations on majorca; the area still has a great deal to offer, although hiring car is definitely a great idea if you’re interested in taking advantage of Portol’s proximity to some of majorca’s fantastic tourist hotspots.

-TheMuseu del Fang (or Pottery Museum) located in Marratxi, approximately 10 kilometres from Portol holiday villas is a must see if you’ve fallen in love with the artistic side of Portol. The museum displays fantastic pottery from numerous different locations; however, the majority of the exhibits are traditional majorcan clay pieces, which are becoming increasingly rare. If you’re in the Portol region in March, you may also like to pay a visit to the Fira del Fang Pottery Fair, which further showcases the area’s stunning earthen wares.

-The Son Amar, situated approximately 20 kilometres west of Portol, showcases dinner theatre at its finest. -The BasIlica De Sant Francesc in Palma de majorca is without a doubt one of the most stunning churches on the island, and the perfect destination for a short daytrip from Portol. Built in the 1200s and remodelled in the 1600s after a lightning strike, it provides an interesting contrast between the original gothic interior, and the subsequently added sandstone façade. A visit to this part of the capital also provides you with the added opportunity to experience some of majorca’s best shopping and restaurants, before heading back to your peaceful Portol holiday cottage.

- Going to the beach is one of the most popular pastimes on majorca. Although Portol itself is situated approximately 20 kilometres from the coast, it is certainly worth the drive to see beaches such as Cala Major and Playa de Palma. If you don’t mind travelling a little further afield, Cala Mondrago Beach, which is located no more than 70 kilometres west of Portol holiday homes is also absolutely breathtaking.

-Golf is without question one of the most popular sports on majorca, and the island boasts roughly 20 different golf courses, most of which were designed by world renowned course designers. Golfers with a holiday villa in Portol will therefore find themselves spoiled for choice as at least 8 of the islands courses are situated within a 30 kilometre radius of Portol.

The weather in Portol

Majorca experiences a Mediterranean climate, which generally entails hot dry summers and cool wet winters. The best time to book a holiday home in Portol is consequently between May and October, although this is also peak tourist season. If you choose to risk the weather and visit outside of peak season however, you may be positively surprised by the change in the island’s atmosphere and prices!

Getting to Portol

Portol is extremely easy to access, owing to the fact that the village is located a mere 22 kilometres from the Son Sant Joan Airport in Palma de majorca. You may therefore choose to cover the short distance between the airport and your Portol holiday villa in a number of different ways; including a shuttle bus, taxi or hire car.

High quality, high spec and high on my list for a return trip

5 of 5
This apartment was superb. Really well appointed and equipped to be lived in and enjoyed unlike many of the spartan minimally equipped holiday lets. This property had everything you might need for a short or longer break. If you forget to pack something, it’s probably there already. Every room felt well planned and comfortable to be in. We went in November, slightly worried about the weather which turned out to be marvellous but I’d have been happy to spend long days simply sitting and reading in the apartment or on the sheltered terrace. The owner was really helpful and the advance information, advice and directions were spot on. Local parking was easy and the central location of the property was a real advantage. Very highly recommended indeed

Small but perfectly formed

4 of 5
Five minutes from the Market Square, (10 from the main bus stops) this little house has it all. However, I wouldn't want to stay there with two people on the sofa bed as it is all rather open plan and just a little small for four. For two it was a perfect size. The house is quite dark and could do with a few more lights but that's about as negative as I can be. The bathrooms were both beautifully done and the kitchen contains all that's required. It was very clean and the bed comfortable. The outside space, accessed via the bedroom, was in the shade in November, but as it was warm this didn't really matter. There is a small supermarket two minutes walk away in Calle de la Luna, with a baker's shop a further two minutes along the road towards the Market Square where there are loads of restaurants and bars as well as the taxi rank, tram and train stops. For a special dining treat try the Ca'n Boqueta in Gran Via (tasting menu with matching wines) tel 971 638 398 and for tapas try Ca'n Pintxo in Calle de la Rectoria tel 971 631 643. You need to book both.
