Portol is a quaint village located approximately 22 kilometres northeast of the capital Palma on the beautiful Spanish island of majorca. Things to do in Portol

-TheMuseu del Fang (or Pottery Museum) located in Marratxi, approximately 10 kilometres from Portol holiday villas is a must see if you’ve fallen in love with the artistic side of Portol. The museum displays fantastic pottery from numerous different locations; however, the majority of the exhibits are traditional majorcan clay pieces, which are becoming increasingly rare. If you’re in the Portol region in March, you may also like to pay a visit to the Fira del Fang Pottery Fair, which further showcases the area’s stunning earthen wares.

-The Son Amar, situated approximately 20 kilometres west of Portol, showcases dinner theatre at its finest. If singing, dancing and fine food and wine sounds like your idea of a great night out then this is definitely up your alley. The theatre has an extremely user friendly website, which highlights their current shows, allowing you read about their current shows, and reserve your tickets, all from the comfort of you Portol holiday home.

-The BasIlica De Sant Francesc in Palma de majorca is without a doubt one of the most stunning churches on the island, and the perfect destination for a short daytrip from Portol. Built in the 1200s and remodelled in the 1600s after a lightning strike, it provides an interesting contrast between the original gothic interior, and the subsequently added sandstone façade. A visit to this part of the capital also provides you with the added opportunity to experience some of majorca’s best shopping and restaurants, before heading back to your peaceful Portol holiday cottage.

- Going to the beach is one of the most popular pastimes on majorca. Although Portol itself is situated approximately 20 kilometres from the coast, it is certainly worth the drive to see beaches such as Cala Major and Playa de Palma. If you don’t mind travelling a little further afield, Cala Mondrago Beach, which is located no more than 70 kilometres west of Portol holiday homes is also absolutely breathtaking.

The weather in Portol

Majorca experiences a Mediterranean climate, which generally entails hot dry summers and cool wet winters. Great house, great location

We visited in February with some mixed weather so having such a big, well equipped house made the trip special. My boys loved the garden (especially the football goal) and Judith was very responsive for any questions I had. Biniali is central so we got all around the island with ease 25 minutes from Palma airport, 30 mins from Alcudia on the other side of the island.

Beautiful finca style house in secluded grounds with amazing views.

This is a golden opportunity to get away from it all. Midway between Sóller and a fornalutx and just off the GR221 we abandoned the idea of a car and loved coming and going on foot to our hillside hideaway. The cottage is very well equipped and we had many a meal on the terrace looking out on the twinkling lights of soller below. All fittings and furnishing were extremely comfortable and we enjoyed the log burner. We had wonderful weather (not bad for November) so ate all meals outside and enjoyed lounging on the terrace which was in sun most of the day. The trek up to fornalutx was approx 30 minutes and very manageable along the path day and night (head torches came in handy) so we ate out in Ca N’Antuna enjoying lovely home cooked food with the views from their terrace. Likewise we walked in to Soller and had some lovely meals in the town - Ca’n Boqueta and Ca’n Pinxto both bring favourites. We loved this house and wouldn’t hesitate to stay again.
