Ponga is a small town and municipality in the hills of Asturias, just next door to the Picos de Europa National Park. The spectacular landscape surrounding Ponga cottages is ideal for a wealth of outdoor activities. With an excellent infrastructure of trails you’ll be able to go walking, horseback riding or mountain biking for an unforgettable adventure. Along the way you’ll be able to stop at picturesque Asturian villages, known for their quaint thatched cottages. And the scenery will be nothing short of stunning, no matter which direction you set off in from a self-catering villa in Ponga.

Holiday cottages in Ponga are found in a hotspot for adventure sports. Among the activities promoted here are rock climbing and quad biking. Also popular are canoe excursions, which set off along the nearby River Sella. It’s a pursuit that can be enjoyed by all ages, but you will encounter some white water along the way. The region around Ponga self-catering holiday cottages is also a well-known fishing destination. Between May and July you can catch salmon here, which can be as much as 2ft in length.

Much of the countryside here is protected, but the most famous nature reserve is the Picos de Europa National Park, no more than a 15-minute drive from Ponga villas. La Beciella, Moracey and La Espasa are lovely examples, just outside Caravia.

Ponga is found in a region that has more varied conditions than most other parts of Spain. If you arrive at a Ponga cottage in winter you can expect very cold weather, with a layer of snow on the highest ground that will remain until May. Summers here are generally warm and sunny, with occasional rain.

Cheap flights to Ponga, Spain

The closest international airport to self-catering holiday cottages in Ponga is Asturias Airport (OVD) in Castrillon, about 90 minutes away by car. There are regular flights scheduled between this destination and London-Stansted (STN), and you can also get here from a number of other major Spanish and European cities.

Lovely apartment. Very homely. Loads of room for sleeping 4 people. Very clean. All amenities are just outside the door, and the beach only across the bridge. Excellent location.
