Things to do

-Beach. You need look no further than Playa de San Juan, a gorgeous stretch of white sand equipped with a superb range of shops and restaurants, and offering facilities including sun beds, beach sports and children’s play areas. Its seven-kilometre length and range of amenities mean your days by the sea here can be as lively or secluded as you please.

-Sights. Make for Alicante for a dose of history and culture. The towering Castle of Santa Barbara is the top landmark here, standing out 166 metres above the city. It dates back to the 800s and was built during Spain’s Islamic era – it’s free to enter and is worthwhile for the view of the city alone. For a bit of context about Alicante you could visit the Archaeological Museum, which has lots of hi-tech displays and interesting artefacts.

-Food and drink. In the Valencian Community the big ingredients are seafood and rice. This has given rise to Paella, one of Spain’s best known culinary exports. Arroz Negro is a variation – made with squid and dyed black using its ink sack. The vineyards around Alicante are known for their high-quality wines, earning the Protected Designation of Origin.

-Family attractions. Benidorm, a short drive up the coast, is the Costa Blanca’s best destination for family days out. Ideal for summer are two water parks, Aqualandia and Terra Natura, which boast all kinds of flumes and slides. Terra Mitica is a high-profile theme park to rival the best in Spain, while Mundomar is a wildlife-themed attraction with dolphins and other aquatic species.

-Golf. The Costa Blanca and golf go hand-in-hand, and Alicante has two courses within the city limits, and three more just outside. Especially convenient to Playa de San Juan is Husa Alicante, designed by the late, great Seve Ballesteros and regarded by those who know as one of Spain’s top courses when it comes to innovation, practice facilities and upkeep.

Weather in Playa de San Juan

The perfect climate is what makes Alicante one of Spain’s favourite sun and sand destinations. If you visit a Playa de San Juan holiday villa in mid-summer then it’s best to be prepared for long spells of hot weather, with temperatures that soar above 30 degrees almost every day. Rain is almost nonexistent in this season, and remains infrequent even during the damper winter months. The period from November to April gets mostly clear, mild weather with highs that reach a few degrees shy of 20 Celsius.

Travel to Playa de San Juan

Alicante (ALC) is the airport if you’re flying to a Playa de San Juan apartment from abroad. It’s one of Spain’s top ten airports, and in the summer season it gets especially busy. There are lots of routes to this destination from the UK, with seasonal charter and low-cost airlines. Playa de San Juan is on the other side of Alicante from the airport, and you can get there by on the A-70 or with one of a range of local bus services.

Lovely villa, great for a relaxing holiday.

We enjoyed a relaxed stay at this lovely villa. There were 10 of us in our party and the spacious villa meant we had plenty of room to be together or have time alone. Use of the bikes was a bonus and were used for the supermarket run (we didn't hire a car). The villa was clean, comfortable and had everything we required. Maybe a couple of loungers would be useful for relaxing outside. The communal pool was used daily and just outside the villa. Rosana responded promptly to any questions I asked and was extremely helpful. I would recommend this villa to friends.
