Make a holiday apartment in Platges de Fornells your home away from home

Platges de Fornells holiday apartments are in an unspoiled setting on Menorca’s northern coast, where development has been kept to a minimum. It’s a setting with rugged hills, hidden coves and beaches that can remain quiet even in July and August. Holiday homes in Platges de Fornells offer uninterrupted peace and comfort for couples, families and larger groups. There are private gardens, barbecues and pools, as well as interior conveniences like air-conditioning. Apartments in Platges de Fornells are ideal for those who want to get out and experience Menorca’s pristine nature, with adventure sports companies, a golf course and a natural reserve all nearby.

Things to do

-Beaches: The local beaches are sheltered and shallow, great for inexperienced swimmers and for younger children to splash around in. Cala Tirant is one such example, with a backdrop of rocky hills and low-scale developments. A beautiful natural beach nearby is Cavalleria, accessed via a walking trail and backed by sand dunes. The waters here are a little more exposed, with rolling waves that attract surfers.

-Watersports: Menorca’s north coast is very indented, with deep coves protected from the open sea, so the environment couldn’t be safer for water-based fun. Kayaking is a wonderful way to see the coast, and there are a number of businesses that arrange excursions. Sailing is also available, and many of Menorca’s top scuba diving sites are located close to Fornells.

-Land-based sports: On land the northern side of Menorca is rugged, scenic and sparsely populated, which makes it a fabulous choice for outdoor activities like hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding. Equipment hire and detailed information about routes are available from local adventure sports companies. Meanwhile, Son Parc, Menorca’s only golf course, is no more than 15 minutes from Fornells.

-Food and drink: The traditional cuisine of Menorca  has a luxurious quality, exemplified by the classic lobster stew. This involves lobster cooked slowly with onions, garlic and tomatoes and served with slices of rustic bread. There’s also a long history of cheese-making on the island and several dairies to visit that produce the famous Mahón cheese, which is buttery in texture.

-Day trips: Fornells is on the midway point of the northern coast, so none of Menorca’s mains sights are hard to get to. Not far to the east is the S’Albufera des Grau nature reserve, which supports diverse birdlife including coots, kites, ospreys, eagles and shags. For a dose of history, Ciutadella on the island’s west coast boasts a charming old town rich with architecture from the 17th and 18th centuries.

Weather in Platges de Fornells

Menorca is known for its clement year-round weather. Temperatures in summer are cooled slightly by northerly winds, so even at the height of the season it’s comfortable to be out and about. There’s beach weather here between mid-May and early-October. At the start and end of the season Fornells gets highs in the mid-20s, while temperatures peak at 28°C in July. Winters around Platges de Fornells holiday homes are very moderate, with highs of about 14°C and lows that stay well clear of freezing.

Travel to Platges de Fornells

The airport for the island around Platges de Fornells holiday rentals is Mahón (MAH), which lies towards the east of the island. Mahon receives flights from cities across the UK, so there’s no lack of routes, especially during the summer season. After arriving, Fornells is a half-hour car trip on the Me-1 and the PM-710. Taxis are an alternative and are relatively affordable, while a cheaper option is to catch a shuttle bus, which may take a little longer than other modes of transport.

We are a family of 9 and had a wonderful holiday, the villa is a short drive from the airport and local amenities. A lovely villa and fab pool. Hiring a car was a great way to explore beautiful Menorca. Really hope we can visit again sometime.

Tolles Haus in einzigartiger Lage mit Meerblick

5 of 5
Wunderbar ruhig gelegen. Herrlich!
