Make a holiday rental home or villa in Peratallada, Spain your home away from home

Located 30km east of Girona and a short distance from the beaches of the Costa Brava, Peratallada is a historic town in the Forallac municipality, which is dominated by the presence of its 11th century castle. The town name translates as ‘carved stone’, and most of the buildings in the area are indeed made from stone carved out of the nearby moat, which once acted as the town’s fortifications. With a number of other interesting structures to be discovered along its winding streets, a holiday in Peratallada has a slightly different appeal to that of many other Costa Brava destinations.

Things to do in Peratallada, Spain

The 11th century Castle of Peratallada is a magnificent and imposing structure that many people regard as the jewel in the Girona province’s crown. The castle is now privately owned, and has been transformed and converted over the years to bring it to its current state – now housing an upmarket hotel and restaurant, but still retaining its architectural ‘wow’ factor.

Just outside the town walls of Peratallada is the 13th century Church of Saint Esteve, which is also well worth a visit. The town walls themselves remain today, and are a constant reminder of the heritage and history on display in Peratallada. As with many medieval towns, the streets are narrow and winding, occasionally opening up to reveal sunny courtyards lined with traditional Catalan restaurants and cafe-bars.

Peratallada is also an excellent destination for a golfing holiday, with several courses to be found within a fifteen kilometre radius of the town. If golf is not your thing, you can take the short drive down to the beach, try your hand at various water sports, or simply go for a walk in the surrounding hills and take in the spectacular scenery.

A nice relaxing stay in a very picturesque village

5 of 5
We spent a very pleasant 2 weeks in this very comfortable house and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. There are some lovely long walks in the surrounding countryside if you're into walking - and it's a good base for exploring the surrounding area by car too - there are some good beaches maybe a 20-minute drive away. The village itself is very pretty and gets lots of visitors (especially when it's raining and everyone looks for something else to do instead of going to the beach!) and it was great to be able to just pop out of the door in the evenings and go for a short stroll before settling in a restaurant and then crawling back home afterwards without having to get into the car. I would definitely recommend this if you're looking for somewhere relaxing and a bit different.

Highly recommended lovely villa overlooking hills and woodland with a south facing pool

5 of 5
Lovely villa set in a unique spot south facing so the garden and the pool have the sun from first thing in the morning until it sets in the evening. Well equipped kitchen with large fridge freezer and all open plan living area that is great for family and friends to socialise whilst cooking. There is also a great BBQ on an outside covered terrace with tables to dine at we use this a lot and eat outside every evening it overlooks the pool and the hills the views are great. We have stayed at this property two years running now the location is fantastic very close to beach great restaurants from fine dinning to pizzerias. The area the villa is set in is very quiet even in high season then only the odd car drives up and down the road and most of time you will be lucky to see anyone else. The villa has various different seating areas and spaces to realax which is great when you have a large family as everyone can go and find there own little bit of space. The pool area is truly amazing you can relax in peace and tranquility the pool is very modern and has an extremely efficient pump cleaning system so it's really clean and well kept. The house has all modcons large smart TV with Netflix account available to use also the internet is very good and we have never had any problems at all. We have an 18 month year old traveling with us and the property is very safe and child friendly there is a baby gate on the stairs and the swimming pool area can be completely closed off from little ones. The property is very secure and all windows and doors lock well. There is lots and lots to do in the area I would go for a run down to pals beach and back you have to go along the main road to get there but it's very safe and lots of other pedestrians and bikes. The area also has some of the best scuba diving in Europe and best beaches so it really does have it all. There are loads of other activities from walking to horse riding and go karts and pretty much any water sport you can do my sister learnt how to free dive here. The management company you takecare of you wile at the villa are very efficient they provide anything you need for us it was a high chair and cot but and problems that arrose during our stay very quickly delt with or repaired like when the light bulb went it the bathroom. All in all it's a lovely clean quiet place to stay and you won't be disappointed.
