Sitting on a spit into the Mediterranean on Spain’s Costa del Azahar, Peniscola is known as the ‘City in the Sea’. The old town is absolutely stunning, surrounding the ancient fortress that protected the town during Spain’s more turbulent moments in history. Walking the streets of the old town is an absolute delight. The narrow streets bustle with activity, from the street stalls to the top class restaurants, and there are a huge number of sites to investigate. The castle is an excellent place to start your exploration of the old town, which juts out into the warm waters of the Mediterranean.

However, it is the beaches which really cause a stir with visitors. There are many miles of uninterrupted sand running away to the north of the town for 7km, much of which is lined with a smart new promenade. To the south of a Peniscola villa there is a further 1km of pristine, blue flag beach to enjoy. There will never be a problem finding a good spot on the beach on which to place your towel, and trips out into the Mediterranean are easily arranged from the harbour. More locally, there is a fantastic go kart track on the outskirts of Peniscola, the highly acclaimed Panoramica Golf Complex and a huge weekly market to enjoy. If you would like more information, Peniscola owners are usually more than happy to provide information.

Our family group of 6 (3 couples) stayed here for 8 nights. The villa was spacious, comfortable, and well equipped. There was room to spread out on the magnificent terraces, set on 2 levels., including an outside barbecue area and bar. Every space in the villa enjoys the wonderful panoramic views. An experience we won't forget. We all hope to return next year.

A spacious property providing an excellent week's accommodation for us to enjoy this delightful part of Coastal Spain. The property was spotless. If anything, the photographs and blurb do not do the property sufficient justice - this is a "split level" townhouse with an integrated garage and a roof patio. Both bedrooms have air con, the main bedroom having its own balcony ( see photo). The ground floor kitchen / living room opens onto a further patio and small enclosed garden area all of which is self contained and private. There is an ensuite bathroom to the master bedroom, and further bathroom next to the second bedroom, both of which have showers / a shower over the bath. There is loads of space and was much bigger than we expected, especially given the competitive price. (the number of split levels and steps would make this a difficult property for anyone with mobility issues). Wi fi signal and speed, kids, is 1st class. The property is located out of the centre towards the Sierra D'irta National Park. It is part of a complex that is built on both sides of the road running from the town to the park. The road itself is not particularly busy, but the communal pool is on the other side of the road. The little cafe at the poolside did very reasonable priced drinks and meals but I feel, if I was to be picky, that the location could benefit from a small shop or at least a panaderia. This of course is no fault of the villa owners who were very easy to deal with throughout the booking process. A car is near essential. There is a little bus that seemed to run once an hour into town and back, but save for one day when we walked ( a bit precarious as there is no path alongside a windy coastal road) - 40 minutes each way - we took the car. Parking is at a premium in the town, especially at night so we ended up parking on the outskirts on one of the residential streets and walking the remaining short distance. We love this particular area of Spain. Do not come here if you are looking for a Weatherspoon-esque All Day English Breakfast or Steak and KIdney Pie for Tea. The area seems to be delightfully free of foreign influence ( although if you miss home so much there is one English bar - The Prince Albert - in the Town Centre) and caters well for families. The beaches are spotless and the restaurants at night are busy and reasonably priced. The old town is lovely to wander and there are plenty of places to visit along the coast if you fancy a change.
