Make a holiday apartment in Pallars Sobirà your home away from home

Pallars Sobirà holiday homes are found in a remote mountainous region in the Pyrenees, where there’s astounding natural beauty, quaint old villages and a huge choice of activities in both winter and summer. It’s the ideal spot for either seclusion and relaxation, or to get the adrenaline pumping in the great outdoors. An apartment in Pallars Sobirà will be a cosy base at all times of the year, complete with fireplace, stone walls and wooden furniture. All holiday homes in Pallars Sobirà are well appointed, with smart appliances and entertainment facilities like DVD players.

Things to do

-Winter sports: Between December and April, skiers and snowboarders can choose from four alpine resorts in the area, including Espot Esquí, Baqueira-Beret, Tavascan and Port-Ainé. The largest is Baqueria-Beret with 71 runs and a thoroughly modern infrastructure. Cross-country skiing is a fine way to explore the wilderness, and there’s an ideal setting for this activity at the Forest of Virós.

-Summer activities: After the thaw there’s much to enjoy for those who don’t mind heights or getting wet. The kayaking and rafting is especially good here, as the Noguera Palleresa River is billed as one of Europe’s best for whitewater fun. The potential for adventure on foot or by bike is almost endless, with an abundance of safe and well-marked trails across Pallars Sobirà including an almost endless tally of peaks to conquer.

-Heritage: El Pallars has magnificent but often overlooked Romanesque buildings, most of which are churches and chapels, but there are also monasteries and a couple of bridges here dating back 1,000 years. The interiors of the religious buildings have been painstakingly restored and it’s possible to see exquisite frescoes and wood carvings. Escaló meanwhile is an authentic walled village complete with fortified gates and towers.

-Gastronomy: This high in the Pyrenees, meat plays a big part in local diets, used in satisfying dishes like wild boar stew or mountain paella, which involves pork and rabbit instead of seafood. Freshwater fish like trout are also excellent here, as well as seasonal produce like garden vegetables and mushrooms.

-Excursions: There are lots of quaint mountain towns within a comfortable car journey. Coll de Nargó, La Seu d’Urgell and Vielha are all well worth strolling around. In Bossòst to the west there’s also an animal park with Pyrenean species like wolves, mountain goats and brown bears, kept in humane enclosures in semi-liberty. You can also leave the country, visiting Andorra or the picturesque French spa town of Bagnères-du-Luchon.

Weather in Pallars Sobirà

The great changes in elevation around Pallars Sobirà holiday accommodation means that weather conditions can vary from place to place. In general, low-lying areas are cool in winter, with temperatures that don’t exceed 7°C and either regular snowfall or rain. Upper reaches though are consistently cold, and covered with snow between November and April. Summers are warm here, with highs rising to 28°C in July. This is also the driest time of the year, with only occasional downpours.

Travel to Pallars Sobirà

The airport for holidaymakers heading to Pallars Sobirà apartments from abroad is Lleida (ILD). This is a small airport, with no more than a few connections to the UK. Lleida is just over two hours southwest of the Pallars Sobirà area. To get to this sparsely populated part of Catalonia it’s best to have the use of a car. The C-12 and C-13 roads wind up from the plains around Lleida and through the Serra del Montsec for a scenic drive.

Great location for a ski holiday

5 of 5
Great location for a ski holiday. We stayed with a big family (including a nine month old baby). The apartment was big enough and clean. The contact with FeelFree was great and they helped us with all our questions. We certainly recommend this house.
