Make a holiday apartment in Montjoi your home away from home

Montjoi holiday apartments are for people who love nature but don’t want to miss out on the facilities, services and fun of top Mediterranean resorts. Holiday homes in Montjoi are set in a holiday community within the Cap de Creus Natural Park. Hiking, kayaking, mountain-biking, diving and a host of other recreational opportunities are on offer, but there’s also the option of carefree days on the beach. Apartments in Montjoi are set up for families and located close to the sea. Inside there’s all the functionality of contemporary homes, with some providing amenities like gardens, air-con, barbecues and even access to a pool.

Things to do

-Seaside fun: Cala Montjoi provides a variety of activities for visitors. There’s tennis, mini golf, volleyball and archery, as well as water-based pursuits like sea kayaking trips in the protected waters of the Natural Park. There’s also the option of Montjoi’s pristine sheltered beach, tucked within a cove and offering a beautiful strip of coarse sand to laze on.

-Natural scenery: Montjoi is situated within the Cap de Creus Natural Park, considered one of the most beautiful parts of the Costa Brava. On land the scenery is rocky, with low-lying mountains full of Stone Age heritage and providing wonderful views of the Mediterranean. One of the park’s best walking routes is accessible just outside Montjoi and encompasses the remarkable cliffs of the Cap de Norfeu.

-Diving: The Cap de Creus Natural Park also offers numerous dive sites and preserves rich marine life for anyone bent on underwater exploration. Predators thriving in these waters include grouper, barracuda, gilthead and dentex. There’s a dive centre just a few minutes from Montjoi, located on Cap de Norfeu and offering trips for all ability levels.

-Excursions: Anyone with an interest in 20th-century art should make the short drive west to the town of Figueres. It’s linked inextricably with the surrealist Salvador Dalì, to such an extent that there’s a museum here designed by the artist himself, devoted to his life’s work, and even serving as his final resting place. Keen historians could head to Empúries, an ancient Greek and Roman settlement with preserved mosaics and walls, as well as a necropolis, early-Christian basilica and museum displaying the site’s impressive finds.

-Food and drink: The Girona province has long been a cultural crossroads, giving rise to an exciting cuisine with diverse influences. Today it’s associated with internationally renowned avant-garde chefs like Ferran Adrià and the Roca Brothers, who use technology to create new flavour, texture and temperature combinations. For more traditional fare, neighbouring Roses is still a fishing port and known for its suquet, a fish stew including garlic, potatoes and tomato, and traditionally prepared onboard trawlers.

Weather in Montjoi

The climate in this coastal region is Mediterranean, consisting of warm summers that can last for five months or more. Rainfall is scarce here, apart from in spring and autumn. Guests arriving at a Montjoi holiday homes between June and September can expect to enjoy lots of clear, sunny weather, and balmy temperatures that tend to peak just below 30°C. Even as early as May or as late as October, daily highs still climb to the low-20s, making for very clement weather. A typical winter’s day in Montjoi brings mild highs of about 12°C.

Travel to Montjoi

The easiest way to get to holiday accommodation in Montjoi by air is to fly to Girona Airport (GRO). This airport handles mostly low-fares traffic, with links to several UK cities and lies about an hour southwest of Roses. Visitors travelling by car can simply take the AP-7 northwards, turning off just before Figueres then joining the C-68, which connects with Roses and the Cap de Norfeu. Located within a Natural Park Montjoi is quite a remote destination, so use of a car is usually recommended here.

Lovely apartment in Cadaques

5 of 5
We stayed at Saguarda with our two sons in their twenties and their respective partners. The flat was perfect and exactly as described. Unusually for Cadaques, we were not overlooked. The bedrooms were all a good size, the bathrooms great and the kitchen, dinning and sitting room were nicely furnished and spacious. The owner was helpful and always prompt to respond. The only drawback was lack of parking, made all the more difficult because we took two cars, but this was a small quibble for a really fantastic property, which we would happily return to.

Delightful

4 of 5
Fabulous panoramic view and good apartment facilities. Clean and comfortable. Lovely accessible walks and beaches by foot. Look forward to staying again especially when the outdoor small pool is completed. Kids missed dipping in a pool. Thank you Imma for a lovely stay.
