Make a holiday apartment in Miengo your home away from home

If you're fond of spacious Atlantic beaches, verdant landscapes and prefer temperate climes then a holiday apartment in Miengo could be perfect for you. The coastline here offers almost countless long sandy beaches, with huge expanses of sand, ideal for kiting, kite-surfing or simply taking it easy on warmer days. And if you've always wanted to give surfing a go, you'll have the perfect opportunity during your stay at a Miengo holiday home. Accommodation here is cosy and rural in character, but endowed with all the functionality you could need. Nearly all holiday homes in Miengo are a short hop from the beach and benefit from private gardens.

Things to do

-Beaches. The municipality of Miengo has five beaches, which are natural and untamed, with extensive sweeps of golden sand fringed by green hills. The facilities are still superb - Cuchia beach has disabled access, as well as a boardwalk, showers, cafes and car park. Usgo beach, backed by cliffs, is quieter, but no less beautiful - the currents here are quite strong, but the scenery is nothing short of sublime.

-Recreation. The neighbouring town of Mogro has the Abra del Pas golf course, boasting nine holes surrounded by woodland and dunes. There's also a driving range and practice green here. On the water, if you'd like to have a go at surfing then the Atlantic has some good swells here, and there are several surf schools nearby, including one a few minutes from Miengo at Cudon.

-Heritage. Cudon is also known for its cave, which has art from the middle and upper paleolithic periods, between 24,000 and 30,000 years ago. It was discovered in the 1930s and is one of a number of similar sites across Cantabria. If Cudon whets your appetite then there are other caves close by at Arce, Suances and Camargo.

-Food and drink. Right on the Atlantic, the cuisine here is founded firmly on fish and seafood, especially anchovies, mullet, sea bass, squid and sardines. Grilled sardines and fried calamari are two staples. Cantabria's greenery also makes it an important region for cattle farming, and the excellent conditions are reflected in the high quality of the beef from this region.

-Santander. Santander is an interesting city, known for its fine restaurants and delightful sandy beaches, and has some interesting monuments and attractions to check out. The Palacio de la Magdalena was the residence for the Spanish royalty in the early-20th Century, leading up to the civil war. Cantabria's prehistoric archaeological wealth is also showcased at the Archaeological Museum, while the old town is compact and picturesque with numerous old churches.

Weather in Miengo

Miengo holiday accommodation is in an oceanic climate zone, with neither extreme highs in summer nor lows in winter. There's also quite a lot of humidity on Spain's northern coast. It's a much greener part of the country, and this is down to the relatively frequent rainfall. Temperature-wise, summers are pleasant, with average highs just below the mid-20s in July and August. These months are also the driest of the year. Winters meanwhile are very mild, with temperatures getting up to the mid-teens, even in January.

Travel to Miengo

The simplest way to get to a Miengo holiday apartment from Britain is via Santander Airport (SDR). This small destination handles mostly domestic flights, but there are some connections to cities in Britain. The airport is a mere 17 kilometres from the town of Miengo, and the A-67 toll road will get you most of the way there. Santander connects with other Spanish cities by long-distance and medium-distance rail lines. You can get here from Madrid, Valladolid, Oviedo and Bilbao.

Excellent apartment in quiet location with a friendly service

This is a well-decorated homely apartment with good quality kitchen and bathroom. The owner Luga speaks good English. She was very helpful and responded promptly in answering our questions in the days leading up to our stay. She met us at the apartment and quickly made us feel at home. The apartment has good quality comfortable beds and good wifi connection. The location is walking distance from the centre, bus and train stations. There are ample local shops and supermarkets nearby. There are also some excellent seafood restaurants 10 minutes walk away. We'll stay here again next time we visit Santander.

The property was really nice just like in the photo and.In a good location

The owner Carlos and his son Carlos were exceptional hosts from greeting us at the airport to welcoming us to the villa.The highlight of our stay was the surprise entertainment gave us a taste of real spain and a memory which will stay with us. Superb hosts
