Make A Holiday Rental Villa in Matalascanas, Spain, Your Home Away From Home

A holiday rental villa in Matalascanas is by far the best way to experience this popular Spanish holiday resort set on the Costa de la Luz. Whilst this area of the Huelva Province has hotels, none of them are particularly pretty, and self catering accommodation in Matalascanas offers this and much more besides. Each one is fully equipped with everything that you need to feel at home right away, and also gives you a sense of independence and space.

Things to Do on Holiday in Matalascanas, Spain

A holiday in Matalascanas is all about sun, sea and sand. This resort area is popular during the months of June and July with people flocking to swim in the warm sea and sunbathe on its long wide beach. In fact, this beach, the Playa de Castilla, stretches for some 40km. All manner of water-based activities are available here, from canoeing to water skiing. Just a little bit west of the town, is a protected park area which it is possible to explore on foot or by bike.

Places to Visit on Holiday in Matalascanas, Spain

The use of a hire car during your holidays in Matalascanas will open up the immediate region for exploration. If you are prepared to spend a few hours driving, then the cities of Cadiz, Malaga, Seville and even Granada are all accessible. This region of Spain is fascinating for those prepared to take the time to look closer, with Moorish castles, palaces and white washed villages dotted throughout the countryside. Visit the Alhambra Palace in Granada, the Alcazar Cathedral in Seville, or simply try tapas at the small bars along the coastal roads.

Weather in Matalascanas, Spain

If you are booking your self catering accommodation in Matalascanas between the months of June to September, then you will receive almost no rain during your stay. The daily highs are in the mid-thirty degrees Celsius and the nightly lows are at 15 degrees. This is perfect sunbathing weather! Taking a winter holiday in Matalascanas is also an option, especially for people seeking to escape the UK winter. Daily highs of 20 degrees Celsius and lows of 10 degrees mean that frost here is a very rare beast indeed. What rains there are, occur during late September and early October, and happen in downpours as opposed to drizzle.

Travel to Matalascanas, Spain

Whilst the airport at Malaga is a larger facility, the closest airport to your holiday rental home in Matalascanas will be at Seville (SVQ). Ryanair operates flights into here from London Stansted (STN) and Dublin (DUB) amongst several others. Some thought should be put into how you will transfer to your self catering accommodation in Matalascanas, as public transport may not be convenient. A hire car will both solve this problem, and allow you to see more of the region at your own pace.

Great Holiday

5 of 5
The pool combined with the beach access was just right for us. Our host Antonio was very helpful and fixed a minor issue with drainage promptly. This is a great family location and we enjoyed it very much. We found plenty places to eat in Mazagon along with more beaches.

5 Stars for Casa 8. The wonderful Ian and Lynn also on hand and very close by if you needed them

5 of 5
The house was wonderfully furnished from top to bottom with all the gadgets you need and brilliant air-con (which you might need in very high temps). It's about a 5 min walk from the main sq with ace Tapas Bars (especially Casa Balbino in Plaza del Cabildo). There is fantastic deli/butchers right across the road, also a chemist, corner shop and fishmonger. Mercadona supermarket is very close too but with the brilliant Central Market also a walk away you should try and visit here to do your shopping. Remember that all the fishmongers in the market are shut on Monday but the market is still open. Try the bar/restaurant out - but beware it gets busy....you can even hand over the fish you've just bought and they'll cook it ala plancha for you for just a few euros more. The nearest beach is also 5 mins away at the end of the street, with a few Chringuitos on hand for some cold drinks, lunch and somewhere cool to sit in the shade, we regularly visited the Chringuito Macario or the Bar Rociero. Also highly recommended are the various Bodegas and the tours they all do. We liked the Argueso Bodega for it's informative talks on various Manzanilla and the whole process involved in making it and also La Gitana for the historical perspective. The Castle is well worth a visit followed by a late morning coffee and tostada con tomate in the gardens of the Palacio Ducal de Medina Sidonia. Looking for a more up market restaurant the famous Casa Bigote on the Bajo de Guia is superb, but so is the more casual Bar Bigote where you can enjoy great Tapas. Around 7:30 pm daily you can watch the small fishing boats returning with their catch to Bonanza up river, where they later get sold to all the local restaurants, so you are probably munching away on what came up the river the night before. Worth a visit for the more adventurous is a long stroll up the beach to Bonanza for lunch at La Campana (brilliant !). HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
