We were three couples staying at the property. Everyone thought the place was lovely and very peaceful. The views of the surrounding area from the roof terrace were fabulous, especially as we had lovely sunshine for the week. Some even braved the pool, as long as you kept to the top layer it was fine, especially in the April sunshine. We were predominantly birdwatching on the island. A good deal of it could be carried out from the rooftop terrace, wher Booted Eagles and Red Kites flew over regularly. A pair of turtle doves regularly flew around looking for nesting material. A Hoopee was heard regularly but never seen. Tirant Marhes produced Marsh Harriers, Black Winged Stilt and Whiskered Tern. Cala Galdana and Algendar Gorge produced Egyptian Vultures, Red Kites, a Lesser Kestrel, Spotted Flycatcher, and our first sighting of a Hoopee. The North Son Saura wetland near Son Parc beach produced the Purple Swamp Hen, Marsh Harrier, Peregrine, Squacco Herons, Red Crested Pochard, another Hoopee and two early Bee-Eaters near Son Parc beach. Torre Fornells produced the Blue Rock Thrush and a great sighting of a Tawny Pipit, which was a first for us.
As far as eating out Tapas Can Avelino in Mahon is an excellent place. The staff are extremely friendly and the prices are very good. We had six rounds of Tapas for six plus pudding plus drinks for 110 Euros. You will need to book in advance as it is very popular. The beach cafe at Es Grau is also a lovely place for a lunchtime meal or coffee, great food at low prices. All in all a very peacuful holiday in a lovely villa.
This villa I cannot rave enough about. The instant you arrive it is just so peaceful and the views amazing. The villa was immaculate with lots of nice touches that we have not had in other rental villas we have visited. The kitchen dining room is just amazing with massive patio doors leading out to the fabulous swimming pool terrace, although the weather was not on our side we still managed to spend quality time out here and it truly is magical. All you can hear is birdsong, perfect for myself and my husband who were desperately in need of relaxation.
There are some amazing walks right from the villa with beautiful views across the lakes to the sea, if you are a bird lover you will be in your element as we saw herons, cranes and literally hundreds of different types.
The Port of Mahon is definitely a must. When we were visiting we were lucky enough to see a cruse ship and you can get right by it, an amazing site to see. We loved the hustle of the Port and visited quite a few times on our holiday, just sitting having a coffee people and boat watching!!
Es Grau which is only 5 minutes by car is a beautiful fishing village with the most incredible beach, if you walk the length of the beach and over the headland you come to a secret beach which was breathtaking.
Although the sea was still a little cold we were amazed at the shallowness and how far you can walk out before it starts to deepen.
I cannot say how wonderful this villa is and the service before our holiday was hassle free and very informative. I shall be re booking hopefully for a short break in October and then again for next year. 5 star villa and location.
