Make a holiday apartment in Mahón-Centre your home away from home

Holiday apartments in Mahón-Centre are in Menorca’s capital, a gorgeous waterfront city next to a large natural harbour with deep but perfectly clear waters. Many holiday homes in Mahón-Centre are set on hillsides affording far-reaching views out over the water. The style of accommodation is traditional, with wrought-iron balconies and shaded courtyards, but there are also lots of creature comforts on hand like air-conditioning, home entertainment and wi-fi. When it comes to activities and days out, there’s a huge choice for all ages around Mahón-Centre apartments, with water sports, beach trips, golf courses and historical sites all in store.

Things to do

-Beaches: A short way north of Mahón is the S’Albufera Natural Park, which protects coastal scenery, wetland habitats and salt lakes. One part of the park is home to the sumptuous Es Grau beach, which is one of the best for families on the island. The water here remains shallow for a long distance, and the beach is overlooked by pine woodland and sand dunes.

-Walks: The S’Albufera Natural Park is also a wonderful setting for a walk, with designated paths offering glimpses of the abundant birdlife as well as perfect views of unspoiled beaches. The trail here is part of the Cami de Cavalls, a 186-kilometre path that follows the entire coastline of Menorca. From Mahón there’s a scenic walk along the harbour to Es Castell, with historic waterfront buildings, rugged hills and unique coastal panoramas to see along the way.

-Local sights: Mahón has the distinction of being the world’s second-deepest natural harbour— it’s also five kilometres in length and up to 900 metres wide. This gives the city an unusual layout and also makes it a hive of activity in the summer, as all kinds of cruises and other launches arrive and depart. An important piece of heritage is the Mola Fortress on the port’s north bank. It dates to the reign of Isabel II in the mid-19th century and is open to the public.

-Excursions: The north coast of Menorca has coves that extend a long way inland, creating ideal conditions for water sports like diving and kayaking. In the heart of the island is the castle of Santa Àgueda, which was the site of the Moors’ last stand on Menorca in the middle ages. On the west coast, about 40 minutes from Mahón, is Ciutadella, the island’s former capital with a neatly preserved old town of mazy streets and renaissance architecture.

-Food and drink: Mahón cheese is loved across Spain and is one of Menorca’s biggest exports. It’s a soft to hard cheese, with a buttery texture and a flavour that is at once sweet and slightly salty. There are dairies open to visitors throughout Menorca, but one of the best is at Alaior a few kilometres outside Mahón. When it comes to cuisine the most representative traditional dish is lobster stew, made with tomatoes, onions and garlic.

Weather in Mahón-Centre

Mahón-Centre holiday accommodation is on an island in the Mediterranean, with a climate to match the location. In summer warm and hot weather is the norm, with practically no rain until autumn approaches. Even then showers are isolated and temperatures remain warm enough in October for visits to the beach. Highs in July rise to about 28°C. Winters here are mild, but exposed areas can feel a bit cooler than the 15°C average highs that occur between December and February.

Travel to Mahón-Centre

Mahón-Centre holiday homes are handily situated at the island’s major transport hub. Menorca airport (MAH) is just five kilometres from Mahón. This destination is well served by airlines from the UK, with links to most cities and an even greater choice of routes in the summer months. From outside the arrivals hall guests can catch a regular bus service or taxi to the centre of Mahón for a journey of a few minutes. By car it’s a ten-minute drive on the Me-12. Mahón can also be reached by ferry from Barcelona or Valencia on the mainland.

Early spring in Menorca

5 of 5
Lovely villa in fantastic location. It has everything you could need for your stay, well equipped kitchen with all the cooking utensils you could need, proper mattresses on the beds which makes for a comfortable nights sleep. Hire car this early in the year recommended as very few places open outside of the major towns and cities although the odd bar and restaurant were open on the weekend. Would definitely come again Thankyou Mike for making everything so easy to book and for your prompt replies to my emails. Kevin 9/3/18 - 30/3/18

perfect bay view

4 of 5
The property is up 2 flights of stairs which lead into a very spacious living/dining room with full width french windows leading onto a full width sun balcony which is glazed but windows open wide, so you can enjoy the view in all weathers. The floor is pale wood laminate so everything is very light. In addition there are 3 bedrooms and a study all with built in wardrobes and drawers. The kitchen is small but adequate. There are 2 bathrooms with bath and shower and a utility space in the stairwell of the stairs up to the roof terrace which provides light to the middle of the flat. The roof terrace is large with commanding views and a drying line. Es Grau is small, there is an adequate mini market (surprisingly large for the size of Es Grau), 1 bar, 2 bar/restaurants (and a restaurant which was shut in late October) and a kayak hire, all very close. There is a sheltered beach with extensive shallow waters and a small harbour/boat mooring. The natural park (which has an inland lake) joins onto the beach with a walk by the lakeside, and the bridle path round the Menorcan coast (Cami de Cavalls) goes from either end of the village. So great for walking, swimming, canoeing, and bird-watching from the doorstep. The capital Mahon (Mao in Catalan) is about 5 miles away and has large supermarkets and food market stalls.
