Murcia - The city of Murcia is the capital city of the region and has a wealth of history and architecture dating back over 800 years. The Cathedral de Santa Maria is a magnificent Baroque Cathedral built in the 15th century. The entrance doors alone are worth seeing and the interior is magnificently decorated with gold. There is a Cathedral museum which is also very interesting. The Almudi Palace and the Castle of Monteagudo with its Arabic influences are also worth a visit.
The nearby Museum Ramon Gaya displays the powerful work of this local artist, whose work was influenced by Vasquez and Rembrandt. There are many other Museums and art galleries to be explored during your visit to Murcia, which is just 69km (42 miles) from your villa in La Torreta.
Cartagena - Situated just south east of Murcia, and an easy 57km (35 mile) drive from your self catering villa in La Torreta, Cartagena is another historical city with beautiful architecture. The Archaeological Museum displays relics from the many ancient civilizations which once ruled Spain.
Temperatures in the Costa Blanca area of Spain are mild in the winter and hot in the summer. Average temperatures in July and August may reach 33C (91F) with no rain. Winter temperatures rarely drop below 10C (50F) and average 17C (62F) during the day so villa rentals at La Torreta are popular in the winter months too.
