Make a holiday apartment in La Garriga your home away from home

La Garriga holiday apartments are found just outside Roses, one of the Costa Brava’s best resorts. Close by are some fabulous beaches, but there’s also lots of protected nature, which has kept tourist development respectful and subtle. With so much nature around, a holiday home in La Garriga can be a base for a breathless getaway, full of activities like diving, hiking and horseback riding. Apartments in La Garriga are modern in style and laid out with families in mind. Mild evenings can be spent enjoying a barbecue and days can be whiled away next to a private pool.

Things to do

-Beaches: On the gulf of Roses are some exquisite beaches. The bay uncurls slowly and provides long, wide and sandy beaches fit for all kinds of holidaymakers. On the beachfront are restaurants, shops and other services, and on more built-up portions of the beach, a whole range of watersports are available. Away from developed areas the setting is natural and unspoiled, with lagoons and forest.

-Activities: Accompanying the sublime beauty of Roses’ beaches are several areas of protected nature, which serve as a lovely setting for a variety of outdoor activities. Cap de Creus is a large natural park with trails for hiking and mountain biking over rugged coastal scenery. In the water the habitat is also protected, so a holiday in Roses might be the ideal introduction to scuba diving.

-History: A good way to enjoy Roses’ heritage is to take a walking tour of the citadel, which in its present state dates back to the 1500s, but has a history stretching back to the ancient Greeks. Within the Renaissance walls there are vestiges from ancient times, including ruins from the settlement of Rhodes and the remnants of a Roman villa. For more examples of ancient remains, head south to Empuries where there’s an archaeological park featuring a host of fascinating Roman and Hellenistic structures.

-Gastronomy: The Girona province has helped put modern Spanish cuisine on the map. Right here in Roses was where Ferran Adrià’s world-renowned elBulli restaurant was located, while the Roca Brothers’ establishment in Girona tops many current lists of the world’s greatest restaurants. Roses’ location, close to the sea and mountains creates a blend of light (whitefish, shellfish) and hearty (blood sausage and other pork products) elements in local gastronomy.

-Figueres: This town is just a few kilometres west and features the expansive Sant Ferran Castle, which dates to the mid-1700s and has walls that are 5.6 kilometres in length and laid out in an unusual pentagonal plan. Art lovers should be sure to visit the Teatre-Museu Gala de Salvador Dalí, a kind of shrine celebrating the life and displaying the work of one of Spain’s most famous 20th-century artists.

Weather in La Garriga

Garriga holiday homes are at a Mediterranean destination, so the summers are long and warm here. As early as May the weather is good for visits to the beach, and temperatures rise month on month, hitting peaks in the low-30s by July. Rainfall is scarce throughout the season, but becomes more frequent as autumn approaches and temperatures start to sink again. Winters are mild, with highs of 12°C, but northerly breezes can make it feel a little cooler.

Travel to La Garriga

The airport for La Garriga holiday rentals is Girona (GRO), which has a number of routes from the UK and is at its busiest in the summer. The drive up to Roses takes just under an hour on the AP-7 toll road. There are also two direct bus connections per day from the airport to Roses with the Sagales company, and many more routes that entail changing at central Girona. The town of Figueres is the closest with train connections to Girona, and it’s also possible to catch a local bus from here to Roses.

Ideal property with young children

5 of 5
We had a great stay at this villa with 6 adults and 3 children under 5. Toddler pool is a real plus and the whole area around the pools is very safe for the young ones. Villa is well equipped with all the equipment necessary, including a large box of children's toys. Great restaurant, a bakery and mini market within 10 minutes walk, beach and larger supermarket about 30 minutes walk away. Owner and local agent very responsive and easy to do business with. An excellent choice if you want to stay in Empuribrava with young children!

Great apartment in perfect location

5 of 5
Very nice spacious and well equipped apartment in the best part of Roses - Eveline our host very helpful and nice. Tastefully furnished to a high standard - nice comfy beds, good wi-fi and a very efficient air con system which we neededbecause it was 30 degrees most days. Enjoyed many evenings sitting on the balcony enjoying the views over the old Finca to the sea - and just a 5 minute walk to the beach and good bars and restaurants. All round excellent property
