Make a holiday apartment in La Bordeta your home away from home

Compiled on HomeAway, La Bordeta holiday apartments are in a Barcelona neighbourhood that has fantastic transport links and is also the place where you’ll find most of the city’s major exhibition centres, should you be in town to visit a trade fair. You can cram in plenty of local sightseeing during your holiday at an apartment in La Bordeta – to start with, there’s the Magic Fountain of Montjuïc with its famous lightshow, and the Olympic Park from 1992. Board the Metro and none of the city’s great restaurants, shops and sights are far away. Your holiday home in La Bordeta will be a welcoming, air-conditioned hideaway to return to each day, and you can contemplate one of the city’s best views over an evening glass of cava from the terrace.

Things to do

-Musuems. La Bordeta is in an excellent spot if you want to experience a bit of culture. Very close is Parc de Montjuïc, constructed for the Barcelona Exposition in 1929 and home to prestigious institutions like the Archeological Museum, Ethnographical Museum, as well as fantastic galleries devoted to Catalan art, and the works of Picasso and Miró. Also make the short trip to Parc de Joan Miró to see this artist’s famed Woman and Bird sculpture.

-Sights. No visit to Barcelona is complete unless you see some of Antoni Gaudí’s architecture. Head into l’Eixample to see wonders like the impossibly intricate Sagrada Familía basilica, La Pedrera or Casa Batlló, all of which are open to the public. You could also enjoy the sights and sounds of the tree-lined Las Ramblas, or, if you like football, take a tour of Camp Nou, home to FC Barcelona.

-Beaches. When it’s warm then an afternoon at the beach is always on the cards. You could take a short drive out of the city to the Costa Brava or Costa Dorada, or simply make the most of one of the golden sandy beaches on Barcelona’s seafront. Sant Sebastià is closest to La Bordeta, and you can cycle the promenade to visit others such as Playa del Bogatell and La Mar Bella, which has a watersports centre.

-Shopping. Barcelona has got to be one of Europe’s best cities for retail therapy. It’s all in the variety, and in La Bordeta you won’t have far to travel. You can shop for authentic local produce at the markets, Ninot and La Boqueria. Or you could browse the stylish boutiques at Born in the Ciutat Vella. There are also top luxury brands on Passeig de Gàcia, and affordable fashion at malls like L’illa in L’Eixample or closer on Carrer de Sants.

-Food and drink. Cusine from across the world can be found in Barcelona, but you might also like to try Spanish and Catalan specialities. For paella and other great seafood dishes make your way to the waterfront at Barceloneta. For contemporary Catalan dining in the Ferran Adrià vein, then there are high-end restaurants across l’Eixample.

Weather in La Bordeta

Summers are almost invariably long and warm in Barcelona, bringing temperatures that hit the high-20s from June to September. The fringe months of April and November can also be very pleasant, with average highs in the upper-teens. Barcelona is known for its humidity – rainfall is scarce compared to northern Europe, but is still frequent enough to nourish the city’s famous greenery. Winters are normally mild – on an average December day there’s no need for a heavy jacket. But whenever you travel to a holiday rental in La Bordeta sunglasses will come in handy; there’s three times more winter sunshine in Barcelona than in the UK.

Travel to La Bordeta

You can get to a La Bordeta holiday home from Britain by flying to Barcelona-El Prat Airport (BCN), which is Spain’s second busiest international airport and is situated a little way outside the city. La Bordeta is especially easy to get to from the airport, as you’ll be close to Barcelona Sants railway station, the main rail hub for the city. There are regular services throughout the day on the R2 line from the airport to this stop. You could change at Sants and use the L1 Metro line to travel one stop to Mercat Nou.

Great apartment, 5-10 mins from the metro and a short ride to the centre, sightseeing and the beach. Owners were very helpful, and the apartment was well equipped with everything you could want for. Wouldn't hesitate to go back!
