Juviles is one of a number of mountain villages in the central Alpujarras, and like the majority of the others is covered in whitewashed buildings and has a traditional way of life. Whether you are visiting to go hiking in the nearby Sierra Nevada National Park, to enjoy the tapas bars and restaurants, or simply to relax in your self-catering holiday rental accommodation, the village of Juviles has something to offer, and acts as a great base for exploring the region.

Things to do in Juviles, Spain

With a population of just over 200 people, Juviles is one of the smallest and most peaceful villages in the Alpujarra district of southern Spain. It is located in one of the highest parts of the mountains, around 1200m above sea level, meaning some stunning views can be witnessed when walking around the village. The area is popular with walkers and hikers anxious to head into the hills and enjoy all of the benefits of nature, with a diverse range of flora and fauna waiting to be discovered.

Those who head to Juviles on a relaxing break will not be disappointed either. Amenities in the village are basic but adequate for self-caterers, with a few small shops and traditional tapas-bars. The bars also serve up great local dishes at more than reasonable prices. Juviles was once an agricultural area, and is known for its air-cured ham, so make every effort to try this speciality during your stay.

The liveliest time to visit Juviles is August, when the weather is warm and the annual fiesta swings into action. During this time of year much of the action in the village centres around the open-air swimming pool, which is open for the duration of the summer.

7 wundervolle Nächte!

5 of 5

Wonderful. Clean, spacious, tranquil.

5 of 5
Me and my family had a wonderful holiday here. Angeles was so welcoming and helpful, she answered all my questions before and after I booked very quickly and courteously. The cortijo was clean, spacious and very private. The pool was perfect, beautifully kept and though close to the house it was secluded and private. The beds are good quality and comfortable. The only criticism we have is that, being English, we found the single long pillows ( bolsters) difficult to be comfortable with and the mattress covers were not breathable so were hot to sleep on. The kitchen was adequate but has no oven and some pieces of equipment are a bit small for five people eg the coffee maker and the kettle. An electric kettle would be better. But these criticisms are small and overall the cortijo is a wonderful place for a family holiday. We would definitely stay here again. Thank you Angeles for being such a kind and thoughtful host!
