Sajazarra idyll

5 of 5
We have holidayed in Spain on many occasions and we always rent properties. This property was wonderful! It was very clean, superbly equipped, and when we were met by the owner, he was charming even if his English was limited. The village is beautiful and everyone we met and spoke to was very friendly but the highlight was definitely a tour of the Bogadas del Sajazarra followed by a wine tasting of a couple their different wines. They don't usually do tours and we were just lucky as we turned up to buy the wine we had been drinking in the local bar, Ochava (the Reserva is superb). Anyway, the "Director Technic" was there and he was so passionate and knowledgeable (as one would expect) but he was also happy to talk to us, at length. Don't expect this if you happen to drop round! The village is not central in Rioja and to see a bit more of the region, you will need to be prepared to drive some considerable distances. That said, it is well worth the effort as it is stunning (away from the industrial areas) and very different to other areas we have visited, predominantly in the north.
