Make a holiday apartment in El Port your home away from home

El Port holiday homes are in the resort of Llança, where there are Blue Flag Beaches and superb restaurants all framed by rugged mountain ranges. El Port apartments are generously proportioned and come with all of the domestic convenience needed for self-catering accommodation. Many offer comforts like satellite television, gardens and barbecues, while some also feature lovely views of the Mediterranean. From an apartment in El Port it’s possible to discover the Costa Brava’s famous rugged beauty and history, or follow the coastline to find quiet beaches or the majestic landscapes at Cap de Creus.

Things to do

-Beaches: One of the many appeals of this area is its varied coastline, creating rocky coves, small bays and long sweeping beaches, all within a few kilometres. Playa del Port is the local beach and has been rightly awarded a Blue Flag. It is overlooked by traditional old houses and backed by a palm-lined promenade.

-Watersports: The craggy coastline in this region makes the waters great for a variety of activities, and there are a number of local companies that arrange trips and provide all the necessary gear. On offer are sea kayak trips around the protected waters of Cap de Creus. This marine park is fantastic for diving too, as the underwater ecosystem is thriving, and there’s plenty to see.

-Outdoor activities: Inland, Llançá is almost completely enclosed by rocky mountain ranges that have a number of circular and long-distance hiking routes. In the Serra de Rodes, for example, it’s possible to seek out historic hermitages like Santa Elena. Just along the coast to the southeast is the Cap de Creus Natural Park, preserving some incredible coastal scenery great for scenic walks.

-Gastronomy: Empordà is a hotbed of modern Catalan cuisine. The resort of Roses a few minutes away was home to Ferran Adrià’s elBulli, rated among the best restaurants in the world, as is Roca, still open and located in the city of Girona. Traditional cuisine here draws on local vegetables, olive oil, chicken and beef. Seafood and fish have always been a big part of the local diet, especially eel, mussels and cuttlefish.

-Figueres: This is a charming town, home to the vast San Ferran castle, which dates to the mid-18th century and has a perimeter of around three to five miles. Figueres is also closely associated with the surrealist artist Salvador Dalí. There’s a wonderful museum here displaying many of his most famous works as well as housing the crypt which serves as Dalí’s final resting place.

Weather in El Port

El Port holiday rentals are located in a part of Catalonia with classic Mediterranean weather. This entails long, warm summers and mild conditions in the winter. There’s also plenty of sunshine throughout the year, especially compared to UK averages. The warm weather arrives here in May and stays right through to October, and is tempered by a welcome northerly breeze. Temperatures soar to the high-20s or more in July and August and the heat slowly tapers off by the end of September, when there’s also a little more rain around. In the winter it’s normal for temperatures to peak at around 13°C.

Travel to El Port

The closest international airport to holiday homes in El Port is Girona, (GRO), which lies around 45 minutes southwest of the resort. Holidaymakers flying to this destination from the UK will have lots of options, especially in the summer, with numerous budget carriers offering routes. The town of Llançà is just over 70 kilometres from Girona via the AP-7 and C-51. Use of a car is recommended but it is possible to complete the journey by bus: there’s a line between the nearby resort of Roses and Girona Airport.

5 minutes walk from a lovely beach, wonderful 2 km walk to village, very helpful host including giving us a grand tour. Ideal accommodation for two people, well-kept interior including useful kitchen utensils. Very quiet. Recommended to bring a snorkel - fascinating sea life.

Ideal location with stunning views

5 of 5
When we first booked a week's stay in this apartment ten years ago we didn't know that we would make this a regular occurrence every spring. Over the last ten years we have learnt to love this region and all it has to offer in terms of beauty, culture and leisure activities from the comfort of our new 'home from home'. This villa has a wonderful location with spectacular views over the bay of Selva. There are no big hotels, El Port de la Selva retains its character of fishing village, and in the spring before the tourist hoards arrive it is quiet and enchanting. The accommodation is very clean and agreeable with two double bedrooms each with its own shower room and toilet. The beds are super comfortable, the kitchen well equipped enabling you to get settled in immediately. There is always enough basic supplies, such as salt, pepper, olive oil, dishwasher tablets, kitchen roll etc. The living room/diner is in an L-shape with enough comfortable seating for four and adequate for another two. Six sit easily around the dining table. - Best of all, perhaps is the enormous terrace, which sweeps around the house on two sides allowing for both shade and sunshine, with the terrific views over the sea, beyond the colourful and varied sloping garden. We have always been welcomed with the utmost tact and courtesy by Almut and Rolf, discrete, but available with advice if wanted, on what to see and do or to help with any practical problem you might have. I will not go in to all that is available in the vicinity; plenty of guide books will help with that. Suffice it to say that we are talking about a landscape adored by many artists and protected from over exploitation. Over these ten years Almut and Rolf have become good friends which of course further enhances our visits, but our comments here are spontaneous and should/could have been written after our first visit, but we were rather new to this way of using the internet to find holiday accommodation and never realised how important it is to leave feed back for others. So here, better late than never, are the reasons why we have come back year after year, often inviting friends to join us.
