Costa de la Luz, Spain

The Costa de la Luz is the western shore of Andalusia, stretching from Ayamonte to the Algarve border of Portugal. The infinite beaches on a Costa de la Luz holiday are finer than those of neighbouring Costa del Sol, backed not by high rise developments but by dunes or unspoilt pine forests. Inland, wild sierras, fertile vineyards and pastures filled with hundreds of migratory birds in the winter. A villa in Costa de la Luz lets you enjoy the best of Spain’s beach resorts whilst retaining an unmistakable Spanish authenticity.

Places to holiday in Costa de la Luz, Andalusia

Chiclana de la Frontera sits on a large salt marsh, where the pine forests meet the Atlantic beaches of the Costa de la Luz in the National Park of the Bay of Cadiz. The town is a traditional Andalucian whitewashed town, with squares filled with bright flowers and all the traditional aspects of Spanish life, bullfighting, flamenco and delicious wines. Chiclana de la Frontera has all this, and of course a long straight sandy beach.

Zahara de los Atunes is a windswept Spanish village with a stunning 20km stretch of fine white sands, guarded by the magnificent ruins of Castillo de las Amadrabas.

Both Conil de la Frontera and Vejer de la Frontera are prime examples of what Andalucian Spain should be like. Strict development rules have meant that there are no high rise buildings of monstrous hotels, just fine Andalucian Costa de la Luz holiday villas for rent and attractive whitewashed Costa de la Luz properties. The locals in Vejer de la Frontera and Conil de la Frontera are lively and very welcoming of tourists, and the streets are vibrant in the evenings, but without the British bar and club culture of the neighbouring Costa del Sol. Both towns boast fabulous beaches and the opportunity to hire a bike, go for a hike, surf, windsurf or play a few rounds of golf.

Things to do in Costa de la Luz, Spain

The beaches of La Victoria, Punta Umbria and Santa Maria del Mar rival any of the world famous beaches of the Costa del Sol, and have the added attraction of being unspoilt, natural and quiet. The Costa de la Luz is perfect for sunbathing away from the crowds, and giving you a real chance to relax.

The Atlantic winds make taking a Costa de la Luz property a fantastic option for windsurfers and surfers alike, especially the windsurfing haven of Tarifa.

National Parks like the Donana National Park brim with wildlife, especially in the winter, and there are many great hiking and biking tracks. Even the lazy beach resorts of Isla Canela, Islantilla and Isla Cristina are not a million miles from the Spanish countryside.

Whichever Costa de la Luz holiday villa you decide on, you are never far from any of the dozens of golf courses in the area, so finding a course will not be hard; finding the time to play may be!

Weather in Costa de la Luz, Spain

Spring on the Costa de la Luz is spectacular, with warm still sunny days and pastures filled with colourful plants. Average daily temperatures are above 25°C from June until October, and even the winters remain above 15°C

Great place to enjoy Jerez in style

5 of 5
The apartment is at the very heart of Jerez de la Frontera. It is a great stay - important for us was that the kitchen was really fully functional with all the gadgets you would want to have. Aircondition was necessary with outside temperatures of around 40 degrees and it is worked well. the parking comes handy as well. We simply fell in love with laid-back Jerez -a city to enjoy and a great place to start exploring the whole of Andalucia. The apartment is spacious and the view from the elevated bedroom is breathtaking. We also enjoyed the very stylish interior design and the artsy atmosphere there. Great experience.

large and fabulous property for a big group

4 of 5
This is an lovely and quirky property for a big group - we were 14 (adult and children) - with one main apartment on the ground floor and several smaller apartments on the lower ground floor. Key for us, however was that the main kitchen and enormous kitchen table were plenty big enough for the entire group to have meals together. The children loved the natural pool, and ( we must admit) the sofa area with tv connected to various services came in very handy in the evenings as well as the chess board , and games. The kitchen was fantastically equipped and had loads of huge serving dishes and plenty of pans to satisfy the cooks amongst us. We also made good use of the Sonos system and the piano and hope the neighbours weren't too disturbed by the late night dancing!. All the rooms were nicely appointed and we were very comfortable and the grounds were lovely. The owners were very helpful in answering questions and immediately replaced a broken coffee machine. There is an excellent supermarket in Tarifa and a good deli very close the property for provisions and we used lots of herbs from the kitchen garden (and would have used the limes if they had been ripe!). The beach is a short walk away and very pretty with all the kite surfers doing their thing. Most of the group went on a day trip to Tangiers and had an excellent day with a local guide. Another lovely afternoon was spent in Cadiz. Altogether a relaxing and lovely stay.
