Make a holiday apartment in Ciutadella de Menorca your home away from home

With HomeAway it’s easy to single out the Ciutadella de Menorca apartment that has all you need for an unforgettable holiday. It’s an area that has been developed considerately to provide all the benefits and services of modern resorts, but in a subtle way. There’s are fabulous beaches close to Ciutadella de Menorca holiday homes, as well as quiet coves that are ideal for snorkeling and other water sports. When you’re not out and about, your holiday home Ciutadella de Menorca will be a restful modern escape – up-to-date appliances, pools and generous gardens are provided by many rentals here.

Things to do

-Local heritage. As the former capital of the island, Ciutadella packs a lot of history, and it’s all perfectly preserved here along cobbled streets. The cathedral dates to the 1300s and stands on the site of a mosque. The minaret is still intact as it was converted into the cathedral’s bell-tower. For a glimpse of the old city’s defences, head for the Bastio de sa Font, which now houses the Municipal Museum.

-Beaches. Despite its compact size, Menorca still claims more than 70 beaches, substantially more than Majorca and Ibiza. Nine fantastic examples are easily reached from Ciutadella. Cala Blanca is about five kilometres from the town, slopes gently and is backed by dunes and pine forest. Cala’n Bosch is another fine sandy beach, and faces south, affording it refreshing sea breezes. Also well worth visiting are the coves at Mitjana and Galdana.

-Cuisine. The gastronomy of Menorca is distinct, even from the other Balearic islands. It’s no surprise that fish and seafood feature prominently on menus here – lobster casserole is a dish normally reserved for special occasions, while baked cuttlefish and rice dishes involving fish are always popular. Menorca does great cheese too – Mahon is a medium-soft white cow’s cheese aged for about two and a half years.

-Water-based fun As the coastline around Ciutadella is so indented, making a lot of interesting places difficult to reach by foot or car, it’s well worth renting a kayak for a day and seeing what you can discover. There are remote coves and beautiful caves all close by. For underwater exploration there’s a diving centre in Ciutadella catering to anyone from newcomers to seasoned divers.

-Excursions. With a car it’s no trouble to visit all corners of this small island. If you’re interested in birdlife then you could head for the eastern coast, home to wetland reserves S’Albufera des Grau. Closer, Ferreries is at the heart of the island and is very picturesque. One of the big sights around this village are the ruins of the castle of Santa Agueda, originally a Moorish structure.

Weather in Ciutadella de Menorca

Ciutadella de Menorca is a Mediterranean destination, where long, warm summers and moderate winters are the norm. From December to March daily highs reach around 15 degrees and normally stay well above freezing at night. There are around eight days of rain a month during this period. If you come to a Ciutadella de Menorca holiday rental between May and October then be prepared for warm conditions. In the middle of summer it’s normal for temperatures to push above 30 degrees by day and not slip far below the mid-20s at night.

Travel to Ciutadella de Menorca

Menorca Airport (MAH) is the way onto the island for most people holidaying at Ciutadella de Menorca apartments. In the summer the airport handles a great deal of traffic from the UK, mostly budget carriers or charter flights. The airport is on the other side of the island from Ciutadella, but the drive isn’t particularly taxing, as you can follow the PM-710 and Me-1 for about an hour to get to your destination. If you’re catching the bus, then services run at half-hour or 45-minute intervals throughout the day.

Excellent Villa

4 of 5
We have been to Cala Galdana previously but have stayed in hotels. This villa was superbly located with good facilities. We met the owner promptly on arrival and he was very welcoming. We were 95% happy with everything. The main issue was the beds which, we appreciate will be suitable for the majority of visitors but we found them to be fairly uncomfortable. The fact we were only there for one week made them bearable. One other issue would be in very hot weather, no air conditioning but the owner has acknowledged this and supplied floor standing fans in each bedroom which brought some welcome relief during the nights. Overall we would book this villa again but due to the beds it would most probably be one week maximum, but as stated above this could just be our issue.

Great villa, fantastic pool

5 of 5
Lovely villa in a very quiet location. The property has a lovely kitchen, although it took a while to figure out how the induction hob worked! 😃 The pool is superb and the covered area is a great place to sit in the heat of the day, and also a great place to eat in the evening. The two bathrooms were adequate. A reasonable walk takes you into Cala n Bosch. There are lots of good places to eat around the marina and it has a really relaxed family vibe in the evening. We had a car so went in to Citudella one day and also visited the Hyoermarket. All in all a very restful and enjoyable stay. Good communications with owners.
