As with many towns and villages in this part of Spain, Castell de Ferro is characterized by its narrow, winding streets and whitewashed buildings. The town square is the main focal point, with three of its sides dotted with shops, cafes and bars. There are also a number of restaurants to be found here, catering for a wide range of tastes. To the fourth side of the square is a pebble beach, and further beaches can be reached within just a few minutes’ walk. The coastline is dotted with small beaches, hidden coves and soaring cliffs, and is one of the most tranquil places on the Spanish coast. The waters here and clean and warm, making swimming a viable option throughout almost all of the year.

A number of activities can be arranged at the harbour, including aqua diving. You can also hire a sailing boat and head out onto the Mediterranean to enjoy far-reaching views of the rocky Costa Tropical.

Just a ten minute walk from Castell de Ferro is the small village of Gualchos. The short journey is rewarded when you reach the village, as it has its own mountain spring, which is believed to produce some of the freshest and cleanest water in the whole of Spain.

Wonderful location - superb villa with pool and private gardens

5 of 5
This property is in a fantastic location. Peaceful private gardens with pool, yet only 10 minutes walk from the centre of Orgiva. The views from all sides of the property are wonderful - we enjoyed watching the sunset with a glass of wine from the terrace. The large private garden was very pleasant for sunbathing and swimming in the pool and was very peaceful and relaxing. It is ideally situated for all the mountain villages where most of the walking in the area starts from. We would certainly stay here again if re-visiting this area. Peter the owner was very friendly and went out of his way to make us feel very much at home and has local knowledge which can be very useful when planning trips around the area.

A lovely house in a beautiful place

5 of 5
A lovely old house, very comfortable and tastefully decorated in a beautiful, remote village location. We were a little frustrated by the tall trees mentioned in another review, which block the view of the valley but not of the neighbour's roof terrace, and the other slight downside for us as learners of Spanish was that, because this is a very cosmopolitan area with many English-speaking residents, we didn't hear quite as much ambient Spanish as we would have liked. But these are minor gripes and overall I think five stars are justified. This really is the perfect place to forget about the car and walk as there are many footpaths leading in different directions from the village, including to the nearest supermarket and a very good vegetarian restaurant. Driving any distance takes a while as the roads twist and turn, but we did a trip to the sea and another to Granada, with some truly spectacular views along the way. A shorter drive will take you to other good places for walks.
