Things to do

-Beach. Considered by many to be one of the best in the Valencia province, the local beach at Raco de Mar is a kilometre and a quarter long and 80 metres-wide. Awarded the prestigious Blue Flag, it has fine, pale sand and clear waters. There are dunes and a boardwalk here, as well all the services you could need for a relaxing day by the Mediterranean.

-Local sights. Sagunt is a city that dates back to before Roman times and is blessed with architectural fragments from a variety of eras. One of the most impressive is the Roman theatre, which can seat 8000 people and is used to this day for special events and open-air concerts. The citadel is also well worth seeing - large sections of its Roman/Moorish walls are still intact. For an overview of Sagunt's history, visit the Archaeological Museum, which has some important Roman and pre-Roman artefacts.

-Local cuisine. Much of the surrounding landscape here is covered with citrus orchards, where oranges are grown for export, but also for local markets. One of the region's most famous dishes is paella, which is native to Valencia and entails fish or meat simmered with saffron-infused rice. Arros negre is a variation, dyed black with the natural ink of the squid.

-Valencia. This city melds the ultra modern with the historic to great success. Don't miss the City of Art and Science, which features some eye-catching architecture and contains attractions such as Europe's largest aquarium. Barrio del Carmen is the place to go for a look at old Valencia, with a layout that hasn't been altered much since Roman and then Moorish times. See the Silk Exchange for a fabulous piece of Valencian Gothic architecture.

-Nature. In Sagunt's hinterland is the Serra Calderona, a mountain range with some surprisingly high peaks and lots of geological and historical interest. One of the top man-made landmarks is the Porta Coeli Carthusian Monsastery, in a picturesque setting amid cypress trees backed by mountains. The range is full of deep gorges and natural caves, which are steeped in local folklore and can be reached via well-marked trails.

Weather in Canet d'en Berenguer

This is a warm Mediterranean region, with very mild winters, and summers that are long, hot and almost invariably sunny. Arrive at a holiday home in Canet d'en Berenguer between May and September, and you should get highs between 25 and 35 degrees. Rainfall is very uncommon until around October when there are infrequent heavy downpours. On a normal day in December temperatures will push into the mid or high-teens, dropping down to five or six degrees at night.

Travel to Canet d'en Berenguer

The airport for Canet d'en Berenguer holiday rentals is Valencia (VLC), which is just over half an hour by car from the resort. This airport is large, handling plenty of routes from the UK, especially in the busier summer season. By car you can simply follow the A-7 from the terminal to Canet d'en Berenguer. There are also regular trains from the centre of Valencia to nearby Sagunt on the C-6 suburban line. Valencia itself can be reached from Madrid via the high-speed AVE train line, or from Barcelona by the marginally slower long-distance train.

All that you need for a living you can find in the apartment, very clean and comfy, access on foot to near supermarket, food very good at the restaurants along the beach, an ideal place for a family with kids to have a holiday.The owner, Mr. Victor an admirable example of Spanish hospitality, welcomed us in a good English, making the entrance into the place more friendly. Verry practical to hire a car if you want to ease access to Valencia and surroundings.I warmly recommend this location for a holiday.

It was very nice stay in the villa near the sea :)

The weather was good, all week sunshine, the villa - nice and big, almost no people around, big space inside the villa. We found everything we need in the house and around it. The water in the pool was not so warm (end of October :)), but it was pleasure to swim in the sea (temperature 20-22 degrees Celsius). We felt us very comfortable siting outside in the evening and drinking wine... Real pleasure... The villa representative Fernando was very friendly for us and very helpful. Many thanks for him.
