Buger, Mallorca - In and around Buger

Situated on the edge of the green and wooded foothills of the Tramuntana Mountains, the drowsy village of Buger (pronounced Boohair) is Mallorca’s smallest municipality and holiday accommodation is still rare.

In the shady streets surrounding its magnificent church, life continues at a measured pace, much as it was before Mallorca became a holiday destination but a bank, a pharmacy, a general store, a simple café/bar and an excellent baker provide the ‘necessities of life’. Whilst genuine fresh produce from local producers can be bought at the small Saturday market. Don't turn up late though - it's all over by 11.00am.

Lunch times, an excellent menu del dia is served at Llardels Patrons - only open in the evening at weekends and fiesta days.

Perched, twin like, atop a neighbouring hill and just 5 mins drive away, Campanet’s one claim to fame is its amazing limestone caves, said to house the longest stalactite in the world! It also makes a good starting point for an exhilarating drive to the mountain top Monastry at Lluc via the picturesque village of Caimari.

Campanet has no less than three bakeries, as well as a well-stocked supermarket and a delicatessen. The sunny church square has a number of simple bars and small shops and it’s a pleasant spot to linger over a morning coffee and croissant before heading off for the day. Of an evening there are also two or three bars that serve authentic tapas or simple meals, but the village has surprisingly remained a peaceful backwater, virtually untouched by tourism.

For a truly memorable occasion, book a table at a small hotel in the nearby village of Binibona where gourmet food is served on a candlelit terrace or the small hotel C’an Calco at Moscari, where they serve an excellent fixed price fish menu at 30 euros.

Old Pollença with a good choice of shops and restaurants is no more than a 15 minute drive.

For serious shoppers, the town of Inca, famous for its leather goods, is a 10 minutes drive and from here you can also catch a train to Palma.

What a find.

5 of 5
We have recently returned from a wonderful week at Villa Sarita. The location is perfect for exploring the island. We travelled very easily to Soller, Deia, Palma and Pollenca from the villa,. The quiet, authentic village of Buger was lovely to stroll up to in the mornings, sit outside the cafe with a coffee, observe the locals and chat to the few cyclists having a well earned break. The villa has a very well equipped kitchen, comfy beds and the outside space and pool area is perfect for relaxing, pool fun or cooling down. The Casita was perfect for our three month old grandson and his parents to have some quiet time together when needed. We certainly would like to return in the future but would choose to stay for longer than a week next time as it was a real wrench to leave.

Beautiful tranquil villa

Finding the place was very easy with the directions via google map links. Lina is a wonderful host and the property was clean and tidy upon arrival. The pool was the perfect temperature and stays in the sun all day. The only things that are worth considering are that there is no air conditioning and the rooms can be very warm at night, and the beds are very firm. A car is essential for this property. Thank you Lina we all loved your home. Tom
