Buger, Mallorca - In and around Buger

Situated on the edge of the green and wooded foothills of the Tramuntana Mountains, the drowsy village of Buger (pronounced Boohair) is Mallorca’s smallest municipality and holiday accommodation is still rare.

In the shady streets surrounding its magnificent church, life continues at a measured pace, much as it was before Mallorca became a holiday destination but a bank, a pharmacy, a general store, a simple café/bar and an excellent baker provide the ‘necessities of life’. Whilst genuine fresh produce from local producers can be bought at the small Saturday market. Don't turn up late though - it's all over by 11.00am.

Lunch times, an excellent menu del dia is served at Llardels Patrons - only open in the evening at weekends and fiesta days.

Perched, twin like, atop a neighbouring hill and just 5 mins drive away, Campanet’s one claim to fame is its amazing limestone caves, said to house the longest stalactite in the world! It also makes a good starting point for an exhilarating drive to the mountain top Monastry at Lluc via the picturesque village of Caimari.

Campanet has no less than three bakeries, as well as a well-stocked supermarket and a delicatessen. The sunny church square has a number of simple bars and small shops and it’s a pleasant spot to linger over a morning coffee and croissant before heading off for the day. Of an evening there are also two or three bars that serve authentic tapas or simple meals, but the village has surprisingly remained a peaceful backwater, virtually untouched by tourism.

For a truly memorable occasion, book a table at a small hotel in the nearby village of Binibona where gourmet food is served on a candlelit terrace or the small hotel C’an Calco at Moscari, where they serve an excellent fixed price fish menu at 30 euros.

Old Pollença with a good choice of shops and restaurants is no more than a 15 minute drive.

For serious shoppers, the town of Inca, famous for its leather goods, is a 10 minutes drive and from here you can also catch a train to Palma.

Gorgeous Villa in peaceful setting

5 of 5
We have just had an extremely relaxing week staying in Serena's gorgeous villa near the tiny village of Buger on the north east corner of Majorca. The villa is so pretty from the whitewashed walls to the grey washed beams, cool floor tiles and my favourite Lewis & Wood fabric curtains. The gardens are equally beautiful with agapanthus in pots, white gaura nodding in the breeze and a pool to dip in when it gets too hot. It is a great base to start from to discover the delights of the island and easy driving to Deia, Pollenca and Soller. We went cliff jumping and ate out at great restaurants within half an hours drive in various directions. The children loved the table tennis too! It was very hot whilst we were there and so the air conditioned bedrooms were extremely well appreciated. The kitchen had everything you could need to cook with but eating out was very reasonable so we only really made use of the BBQ! A super villa in a lovely village location.

Amazing Modern House And Lovely Owners

5 of 5
Recently refurbished this spotless modern home is an ideal place for a relaxing holiday. The house is equipped with everything you'll ever need, and has 3 spacious bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, both with walk in showers. There's numerous outdoor eating and relaxing areas and the large welcoming swimming pool. The land is surrounded by a high fence, trees and electric gates, which means it's tototally secluded. We are surprised on arrival to find the fridge stocked for us with wine, soft drinks and various types of food and also a fruit bowl full to the brim. A really nice touch. We found everything about this property hard to fault and is owners could not have been more friendly and welcoming. As for the North of the island we'd recommend Puerto Pollensa for it's lovely sea front bars and restaurants. It's a class above most resorts in Majorca. Many thanks to Paula and Juan Carlos for letting us stay in your fantastic home.
