Very well appointed apartment in good area of the city, felt safe, and near train and bus stations

5 of 5
The owner, Liza, is very helpful and friendly. She met us and showed us around the apartment. It is in a good area of the city near boutique shopping, cafes and a small supermarket. The area felt very safe and was handy to walk into the old town (10 mins stroll), the city walls (8 mins) and the cathedral (15 mins). There are two balconies, and we enjoyed relaxing on the larger one at the back in the evening as there are comfortable seats and we felt like we were definitely part of city life watching the lights come on around us as locals came back home each night. The kitchen had all the equipment we needed to cook family meals and everything was clean and well kept. Liza had kindly organised a welcome pack of bread, milk etc for us which was lovely. The apartment sleeps six comfortably - seven would be a nuisance as you would have to walk through the bedroom to the balcony. The washing machine is great if you only want to take hand luggage on the plane, or need to wash through cycling kit like we did. Towels and bedding are all provided. The bathroom was good with a large corner bath. The hand held shower was manageable although an overhead shower would have made it perfect. There is plenty to do in Girona itself for a city break. We enjoyed visiting the cathedral, basilica and art museum, and had fun wandering around the Jewish Quarter and sitting in cafes in the old town. The Placa de la Independencia is lovely too. One of the highlights of our city break was getting up before the crowds and walking along the restored city walls, looking down across the red-tiled rooftops to the cathedral, then having a lazy Spanish lunch at a restaurant near the basilica. Away from the buildings, there is a very large wooded park in the city which we cycled through, indeed the whole area is very well set up for cycling and walking around too. There is a parking space but we didn't need it. It is only a couple of minutes walk to the train and bus stations which meant we could easily have day trips to other areas of the region as well as have a city break. Would recommend taking the half hour train journey to Figueres for the amazingly quirky Salvador Dali museum - book online in advance to avoid very long queues. We also took the bus (25 mins) to Banyoles to swim in the lake - best to either buy a coffee and swim at the cafe swimming area or pay £13 each for the Banyoles swimming club site. Definitely recommend Girona and this apartment for a city break.

Great location for a family holiday

5 of 5
A great villa in a beautiful, quiet and secure location. A large, well maintained garden with a 12m pool that our kids loved, great amenities and a host who was friendly and helpful. The beds and bedrooms are comfortable (with plenty of hangers in the wardrobes), the indoor living area large and spacious and the kitchen is a decent size and well equipped. Plenty of seating outside at mealtimes for 8 (might be a bit more of a squeeze if you have to eat indoors). Located a short distance from Peralada, a village with enough going on to make for an interesting walk, though you'll need a car if you want to go anywhere else. We had a great time and it's highly recommended. PS Who's going to sleep in the secret bedroom?
