Make a holiday apartment in Alqueries your home away from home

Alqueries holiday apartments are in Majorca’s peaceful rural heart. The landscape is one of vineyards and other farmland dominated by the beautiful Tramuntana Mountains. Cottages in Alqueries are perfectly situated for wine tours, but there are golf courses, beaches and the lively capital, Palma, all no more than a brief drive away. With large gardens, private pools and a lack of big developments around, apartments in Alqueries are just right for those who want to unwind and experience a side to Majorca that is often overlooked by tourists.  

Things to do

-Viticulture: The centre of Majorca is where much of the island’s now celebrated wine is produced. The Binissalem area has its own designation of origin label, with mostly red wine made here. The best known type is Crianza, which is smooth and aged in oak barrels. There’s a real profusion of wineries and cellars around Binissalem, so it’s a top spot for oenophiles to spend a few days.  

-Natural scenery: The Tramuntana Mountains can be seen in the north and west and have earned UNESCO status for their “physical and cultural” significance. The mountains can be discovered by car, bike or on foot. There are numerous trails winding their way through gorges and pine forest up to peaks and lookouts with fantastic views. By car, the road from Sóller to Pollença is unforgettable, curving past Puig Major, the highest peak on the island.  

-Beaches: From Alqueries there’s a choice of beaches to the east or west of Palma. On the east side are resorts like S’Arenal and Plaja de Palma, which are full of life and feature a long strip of soft sand fringed by colourful promenades. West of Palma is Illetas and Cala Major, which are on a craggier part of the island. Here there are picturesque coves backed by some of Palma’s most upmarket developments.  

-Golf : There are 20 golf clubs on the island, and here in the heart of Majorca it will never take long to get to a new course. Puntiró and Son Gual are two of the closest, at little more than 15 minutes away. A truly exceptional course can be found at Son Termens, which is surrounded by low mountains and adapts itself cleverly to its steep landscape.  

-Palma: Majorca’s capital is the place to go for shopping, dining and culture. Important landmarks include the 14th-century Bellver Castle and the city’s Gothic cathedral, built over the former mosque. For retail therapy Sant Miquel, Sindicat and Alexandre Rosselló in the Old Town have independent and high-street shops galore. The Es Baluard Contemporary Art Museum also merits a visit, exhibiting works by the likes of Picasso and Joan Miró.

Weather in Alqueries

The weather on Majorca is warm in summer and moderate in winter. From May to October conditions are almost always warm, with highs between 23 and 30°C. The weather is also very clear in the summer season, with rain only expected just before autumn in September and October. Holiday at an apartment in Alqueries in winter and temperate conditions will be in store. A January day will usually see highs in the double figures and lows above freezing. The Tramuntana Mountains in the distance may get a light dusting of snow in winter.  

Travel to Alqueries

Majorca’s international airport is Palma (PMI) and is the main way onto the island from abroad. It’s the third-biggest airport in Spain, and there are lots of links to cities throughout the UK year-round. As Alqueries holiday rentals are in a rural setting, use of a car is usually recommended. The drive from the airport takes no more than half an hour on the Ma-19 and Ma-13 roads. Another way to reach Majorca from mainland Spain is to take the ferry to Palma from Dénia, Barcelona or Valencia.

Joachim, Irmgard and their daughter are really lovely and kind people. We had a terrible accident during our stay (unrelated to the Finca!) and they were amazing. They really helped us and we are so grateful for their kindness! The Finca is beautiful - very quiet, beautiful surroundings, comfortable bed, brilliant shower and a lovely swimming pool. We hope to come back next year to finish our holiday! X

Lovely little house in a beautiful and quiet village

What a perfect place! I stayed here with my parents while attending a wedding. The house is really sweet and contains everything you need. Biniali is a beautiful village, very quiet, perfect for relaxing. You definitely need a hire car to get around. Would recommend to anyone looking for a quiet place to stay in a beautiful part of Mallorca.
