Make a holiday rental property or villa in Alora, Spain your home away from home

Alora, Spain, is a small, whitewashed Andalucian village set high in the rocky hills of Malaga Province. Far from the busy Costa del Sol, Alora is a beautifully quiet, natural place, which always extends a warm welcome. Taking a self catering rental villa in Alora is perfect for those wanting a more authentic Spanish holiday, where beautiful natural surroundings, rich wildlife, fine food and traditional architecture shape your holiday. Rock climbers will be very happy in Alora accommodation too!

Things to do on holiday in Alora, Malaga

When you first arrive in a rental property in Alora, Spain, on of the best ways to get to know the village is to take a walk to the top of the hill, upon which Alora Castle stands. The castle is built in Moorish style, with many of the decorative Moorish features still visible. The streets which cross the hills below Alora Castle are lined with citrus trees, converging onto a delightful square at the bottom, where the imposing Church of La Encarnacion stands.

Being an agricultural area, Alora’s Monday market is a lively event, where all the finest local produce can be bought cheaply, meaning you can stock the shelves of your self catering Alora rental villa with some of the finest local produce without breaking the bank. Of particular note are the olives and citrus fruits which can be seen growing on the slopes surrounding the village, and the brandy which is distilled in the village.

Alora accommodation is set in peaceful surroundings for much of the year, but the village does enjoy a number of lively fiestas throughout the year. At Easter, the Santa Semana festival is one of the most colourful and vibrant festivals in Malaga, and is a perfect time to take a holiday rental in Alora, as this fiesta is certainly not for the benefit of tourists, and is celebrated with vigour.

Alora is a haven for nature lovers and walkers. There are many miles of marked trails, and the spectacular lake region just a few miles from the village is a very special place to walk and revel in the scenery. The surrounding hills are particularly rich in bird life, and walking, cycling and horse riding holidays are actively encouraged. The rocky El Torcal National Park is especially beautiful and suited to walking, horse riding and cycling holidays. After a day exploring the hills, the nearby Carratraca Spa offers the perfect way to recuperate and prepare for another day of exploration.

A rental villa in Alora is also perfect for exploring the surrounding region, with good access to the Granada, Cordoba, Seville and the beaches of the Costa del Sol, as well as the less known attractions of the Lobo Wolf Park, Ardeles Caves and the Fuente de Piedre, a favourite habitat for migratory flamingos.

Beautiful villa, lovely pool, quiet location. Lovely owner (Pepe). Fabulous family holiday

We pulled up and instantly loved this villa. My wife and I and our kids 9,6,3 were made to feel very welcome by Pepe. Very quiet and private (kids could splash around without worrying anyone). We had daytrips to Gibraltar,Marbella,Torremolinos and found that the villa was really handy for Malaga airport (25 minute easy drive). On our 3rd evening at the villa, we were so impressed that we booked the villa for 2018. Pepe welcomed us and showed us around and was very approachable throughout our stay. Plenty of supermarkets within 15 mins drive. A car is definitely required in our opinion. Great experience throughout, from booking to arrival and departure.

Perfect!

I could simply say that Casa Mimosa is a beautiful villa set in a stunning garden with everything you could possibly require for your stay. Whilst that is absolutely true, it really doesn't do the place justice, because what Casa Mimosa really is is a well loved home. Clearly well loved by the owners, Helen and Steve, and certainly well loved by us during our all too short stay. We'd love to return. Highly recommended.
