Things to do on holiday in Alora, Malaga

When you first arrive in a rental property in Alora, Spain, on of the best ways to get to know the village is to take a walk to the top of the hill, upon which Alora Castle stands. The castle is built in Moorish style, with many of the decorative Moorish features still visible. The streets which cross the hills below Alora Castle are lined with citrus trees, converging onto a delightful square at the bottom, where the imposing Church of La Encarnacion stands.

Being an agricultural area, Alora’s Monday market is a lively event, where all the finest local produce can be bought cheaply, meaning you can stock the shelves of your self catering Alora rental villa with some of the finest local produce without breaking the bank. Of particular note are the olives and citrus fruits which can be seen growing on the slopes surrounding the village, and the brandy which is distilled in the village.

Beautiful Villa in an excellent location

Stayed here for two weeks with our two children. Sunshine all day until around 9 pm at night. Wifi a bonus and the TV system was great - even movies!. Lovely BBQ area and an outside toilet which was very handy. The kitchen was very well equipped and very clean. Beds very comfortable and bedrooms nicely decorated. Great base for travelling to different places i.e. Mijas, Marbella and Benalmedena etc. Lots of supermarkets (Aldi, Lidl, Mercandona etc) in Coin for food shopping. However there is a new supermarket opened and a "cash and carry" type supermarket at entrance of Sierra Gorda which are both very reasonable. Some lovely little cafes for breakfast in Coin which are really reasonable. Could not fault this Villa at all. Beds and towels were changed once a week by lovely housekeepers who were very helpful with regards to places to eat and visit. Pool cleaned regularly and gardens maintained to high standard. So enjoyed our stay here and would definitely return without a doubt.

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING

My Husband and I kept coming back to "Finca Chimeneas", when we were trawling the internet for villas/apartments in Spain, and something kept drawing us to it. I now know why. It is the MOST beautiful, relaxing place. Yes, the track down to the Finca, at first, is a bit daunting, but forget about that, what you get at the end is just perfect. We only had a Toyota Auris car, and it was fine. You are surrounded by the most stunning countryside, peace and tranquility. The Finca has absolutely everything you could wish for. The kitchen is so well equipped, the terrace is so relaxing. Everything is there for you. The list is endless. We could not get a phone signal, but the Wifi is strong, and being on Messenger and Whatsapp we could keep in touch with family and the outside world, and the dreaded social media!!!! If you go further up the lane you get a strong phone signal from there. There is a TV, but no connection, only a DVD player. We took a few DVDs with us, but the Finca is well equipped. One thing would be a good idea is buy some HDI cables to plug your tablet into, so you can cast them to the TV. We managed to watch Netflix and Amazon Prime via our tablets though because of the good Wifi signal. Juan and Inma, who look after the Finca, are always on hand, if you need anything, and are absolutely charming. Villanueva itself has a good selection in the local supermarket. We travelled to Antequera and went to Carrefour to get groceries. The Finca even had a cool box, so we took the icepacks to enable us to purchase chilled food etc. The surrounding area, Almogia, El Torcal, Caminito Del Ray, all worth a visit. We loved Antequera itself, and went back several times. We also drive to Granada to the big shopping mall "Nevada Shopping" and also drove down to the coast for the day. To be honest, we did not go out in the evening, as we were so chilled out and relaxed after we had been out for the day, it was just lovely to sit by the pool, have a drink, and cook a meal. We cannot recommend this place enough. Even if you were a celebrity, the Paps would not be able to get to you. An absolutely perfect place to unwind, in a beautiful beautiful setting. Andrea was always on hand if you have any queries, and would answer emails straightaway. I really would like to add more and more, but it would take up all the characters I have remaining to do so. We did not want to leave - ONE WORD AMAZING!
