  • Magical week in Andalusia
    5 of 5

Our week at Finca el Almendrillo could not have been better. It's hard to know where to start with the compliments. Perhaps with the views: One could sit on any of several beautifully furnished terraces and simply gaze out for hours! The distant sound of the farm machinery continuously tilling around the olive trees was as soothing as the vista from the terrace, and lazing about the pool. The house is commodious, well-equipped, and very comfortable. Mike is a great communicator--though we had little need for communication, as all house instructions were clearly presented in advance. We had 7 days of perfect weather. The kitchen easily accommodates a group who like cooking together. For us, it also accommodated Ian and Diana, who prepared a 4-course regionally-inspired meal, and even gave us some of the recipes. We found Antonio’s (bar and restaurant in Fuente del Conde) to be a great resource, and stopped there almost daily for a coffee, a snack, or a gin and tonic. The walk down and back up allowed us to justify it all! Our longest day trip was to Granada and the Alhambra. Otherwise we had a wonderful time meandering through the smaller nearby cities: Antequera, Iznahar, and Rute. We never know where our next adventure will be; there is always the desire to try someplace new. We were so enchanted with Finca el Almendrillo, however, that we are actually considering booking again for next year. I would heartily recommend this house to anyone considering a journey to southern Spain.

  • Peaceful location, fabulous views and authentically Spain

Ruben and Carlos were attentive hosts. We appreciated the welcoming beer, cheese and melon. It was a fabulous property with plenty of space although difficult to find, maybe a sign at the top of the steep driveway would be useful as you can't see the villa from the top. We managed not having a 4x4 but needed a car with a bit more power than our rental car. The villa is amongst olive groves on the side of a hill and away from it all, perfect for what we wanted. The views of the sunsets over the lake were glorious. The bread van was a delight. The supermarket at Rute was easy to get to and sufficient for our needs. We visited Alhambra and Cordoba both within easy reach and the town of Iznajar was charming. We also found horse riding within a short drive. All in all it was a superb holiday. Thank you Ruben and Carlos
