lovely accommodation great location

Firstly I must say we are already planning our return visit to this villa!! This accommodation is large and well appointed and very very quiet - a must for me. The bedrooms and bathrooms were well appointed. The sheets were lovely and soft. The beds were unmade only because we hadn't said if we wanted one or two rooms but it took moments to put sheets on and there was plenty of linen in the spacious wardrobes. The beds were firm but very comfortable. The stand alone shower is a bit tight but the water pressure was great. The views from the terraces of mountains all around were wonderful. It was hard to find - make sure you have printed off directions in case you can't get a mobile signal. The swimming pool was lovely and very private (not communal as part of the description says). Quite deep so not very child or non swimmer friendly. We arrived very late due to flight delay so it was nearly 9.30 pm before finally got there. The neighbour who is the key holder does not speak English and any Spanish we knew had deserted us but we worked it all out between us. We had picked up a few provisions on the way including a bottle of wine which was quite warm so the fact that lots of glasses were stored in the door of the freezer was a welcome surprise. The only downside - and a surprising one - was the lack of a welcome pack. No tea/coffee/milk / dishwasher tablets. Especially as milk is usually long life in Spain so could be bought and left there well in advance. So the first morning there - Sunday - my husband took 2 coffee mugs and walked the 100 yards or so to the nearest bar/cafe and returned with 2 coffees for our breakfast! No idea if they are used to selling coffee that way but they did so happily. Of couse we could have had coffee in the bar but with the fantastic views from our terrace breakfast on the terrace was a must. Take your binoculars - birds including raptors - to be seen.

Atmospheric Arcos

5 of 5
A stunning White Village (Pueblos Blancos) of Andalucia, Arcos de la Frontera is a step back in time for those used to the fast pace of modern living. Tiny cobbled streets, whitewashed walls, sit atop of a high ridge giving dramatic views over the lake to the North and the rolling plains to the South. We flew into Malaga and hired a car and took a stunning drive through the hills via Ronda (recommended). I had my Sat Nav with me which helped until we got into Arcos. A small map had been provided to locate the house / garage but I guess both I and the Sat Nav weren't prepared for the very narrow streets and one way system - we got lost. I was glad we had not upgraded the hire car from the small VW Polo to anything bigger as it only just fit through some of the narrow sections ! Look at the route in Arcos on Google Maps street view as it helped us find the way. Pleased to see Juan Miguel (Caretaker) waiting for us as we were by then 30 mins late. No 6 Calle Bovedas is on a one way street and one of the few houses with a garage. The locals park anywhere they can, including outside No6 garage blocking you in - the tip from Juan Miguel was to leave the garage shutter half way open so they can see its in use. We were blocked a couple of times - hit the horn - they quickly moved the cars ! The accommodation is bright, clean and airy set over three floors. An en-suite double room and large garage on the ground floor, A double bedroom, lounge (fold out bed settee), kitchen and bathroom on the 1st floor and a small single bedroom and roof terrace on the 2nd floor. Lovely views from the sun trap terrace are over the rooftops to the lake and haciendas in the hills beyond. Decor is principally white with splashes of Spanish colours in wall hangings, posters, pictures. There is wifi at the property - Took a while to get working - had to phone the IT helper who re-set something. Kitchen was well equipped for us to prep meals and there was a Fridge / Freezer dishwasher and washing machine. The property is very secure - I had a lot of expensive camera equipment :) . We ate in Arcos several times and found the local food very good - try the Parador Hotel - stunning view while you eat. A large Carrefour on edge of town has all you need and a local shop is 30 steps from the door. Brits unless you speak Spanish use Google Translate / phrase book as few people speak English. Overall loved it - recommended as a base for your holiday in Andalucia
