Alfoz de Lloredo is a municipality within the northern Spanish Autonomous Community of Cantabria. It’s a region noted for its natural beauty, and home to a number of important caves, a spectacular coastline, natural parks, as well as the Picos de Europa mountain range. Alfoz de Lloredo holiday accommodation is no more than 15-minute drive from the nearest beach. One of the closest is Cobreces Luana, a picturesque cove featuring a 400-metre-long stretch of golden sand. The beach is found in an unspoiled, rustic setting and so manages to remain relatively quiet, even in the warmest months. Sheltered by craggy rocks, Playa de Santa Justa is also within easy reach of holiday villas in Alfoz de Lloredo, and offers about 100 metres of sand and moderate swells.

About a ten-minute car journey from vacation apartments in Alfoz de Lloredo is the medieval town of Santillana del Mar, famous for its excellent state of preservation. It has often been compared to an outdoor museum, with its cobbled streets and numerous historic buildings. One of the highlights is the collegiate church, which dates to the 1100s.

Also in the area is the Cave of Altamira, a UNESCO listed prehistoric site offered billed as the “Sistine Chapel of prehistoric art” for the incredible detail of its ancient wall paintings. The cave is little more than a ten-minute drive from holiday villas in Alfoz de Lloredo, and although the real cave has remained closed to the public in recent years for the sake of conservation, visitors can visit a museum a replica with faithful reproductions, although there is speculation that the actual cave will soon reopen.

There are a number of beautiful historical buildings, one of the most prominent of which is the Magdalena Palace, which served as a summer retreat for the royal family in the early-20th Century.

Excellent family house

Good house and location for five adults and two young children. Lots of space and well equipped, and when we had a problem with boiler it was swiftly mended. Local agent living a few doors away. Garden small, really just a patio with large tables which had the morning sun. However the view in picture was very close and also had a playground. Ask where to get the local spring water which is lovely to collect. A choice of bars to eat within walking distance, and local supermarket up by the church more than adequate. Beaches were surprisingly quiet, sandy and easy to park. Afraid with little children we didn’t do much walking, but looks like it would have been beautiful.
