Situated in the middle of the Arousa estuary, A Illa de Arousa is the only island municipality within the Galicia region of Spain, and is connected by a 2km long bridge with the mainland. It has a rich history, stretching back hundreds, if not thousands of years, and the sea, and making a living from it, are still important to this day. A holiday rental apartment in A Illa de Arousa offers the best way to experience this island, giving you a comfortable, homely base from which to relax and enjoy yourself.

There are many things to do whilst on holiday in A Illa de Arousa, and a large majority of these, as you can imagine, revolve around the sea. Almost anything is possible here, such as water skiing, Scuba diving, windsurfing, snorkelling, kayaking and swimming. A hike around the island is easily possible, although cyclists may find things a little limited. A trip over to the mainland will cure any golf cravings that you may have, and other activities such as tennis and bowling are possible there.

Places to Visit on Holiday in A Illa de Arousa, Spain

The island with its areas of natural beauty will be the first place to be explored, but you may wish to visit the mainland whilst on holiday in A Illa de Arousa to see yet more sights. This area of Spain is much less developed than the more well-known Costas on the east and south coasts, and time spent simply driving through the countryside will reveal quaint untouched villages and beautiful beaches. There are also some interesting archaeological sites in the region, one of which is the Castro Santa Tegra near A Guarda.

Weather in A Illa de Arousa, Spain

The summer months are the most popular time of year to take self catering accommodation in A Illa de Arousa and with good reason – expect clear skies and temperatures in the high 20’s degrees Celsius. Even at night, it rarely dips below 20 degrees during this time. Rainfall is also minimal during this period, with no more than 40mm falling per month between June and August.

Travel to A Illa de Arousa, Spain

The closest airport to your holiday rental apartment in A Illa de Arousa is at Santiago de Compostela (SCQ), less than 40km away. This is a minor regional airport, and so no national flag carriers fly into here. Budget airline Ryanair do offer routes, though, and connect with the UK at London Stansted (STN). You could take a taxi from the airport to the island itself, but a rental car will give you more flexibility whilst on holiday in A Illa de Arousa.

We stayed in the apartment for two weeks in July.My husband 2 children and I .The apartment on arrival was perfect. The apartment was very clean and had everything we required. It was the cleanest hoilday house we have ever rented!.The apartment had a beautiful garden with fruit tress and lots of space for the children to play. The weather was beautiful.Beaches were 5 minutes by car beautiful beach safe, clean and most days were not that busy.We had lovely meals, fresh fish ,wine ,salads and pizza when the kids would not eat the "pulpo".The restaurant Casieros was 10 minute walk from the apartment.Maria was so kind .Maria was always available if we required anything. It was a perfect hoilday. We would highly recommend this apartment. It was excellent Sarah Ireland.

Great Location and recently renovated

5 of 5
We had a fantastic holiday when we stayed at La Colina for 4 days in June. Great position with fabulous views of the ocean from the balcony, lounge and main bedroom. The apartment is private, has its own balcony, which is not overlooked by other holidaymakers. The balcony became soon a favourite place to enjoy a nice glass of wine whilst watching the sunset over the ocean. The kitchen is a good space, but its basic outfitting meant that we did not cook at the apartment. The location of the apartment other than enjoying the views, provided a great base allowing us to explore the stunning coastal areas and nearby beaches by car. A really interesting walk from the villa is to the ancient settlement (around 2000 years ago). It also is an easy drive to other nearby harbour towns such as Rebeira and A Pobra do Caramiñal where we found great local food (made extensive use of Google Maps and Search Nearby chose those with a high rating from locals). Have to say, that the deserted beaches south from the villa are quite fantastic - more like being in New Zealand than Europe.
